Hey again,
Just noticed a new weird problem on my new Vonage service.
Sometimes when someone calls I see the caller id info and pick up. But I dont hear anyone, no beep, no tone nothing....then after 20 seconds or so I can hear the other end if they havent hung up by then.
Anyone else have this problem?
My Info:
1. Location - Greenville, SC 2. ISP - Charter Communications (Cable) 3. Up/Download speed (Down - 3Mbps, Up - 256Kbps) 4. Modem - Some Motorolla crap thats 3 years old, but works 5. Vonage Adaptor - Linksys WRTP54G (1.00.60) 6. Network Setup: Modem -> WRTP54G -> PC's (phone goes into WRTP54G)
Testyourvoip.com -> around 3.8~4.4 to calls to montreal/sydney.

Hiya.
I had a friend who was using Voice Pulse that had the same problem. Voice Pulse told him it was related to the local ISP that was carrying his Voip service. Voice Pulse called his ISP, they tinkered around for a week and then the problem seemed to be fixed.
He didn't get an explanation of what the ISP was doing or what they corrected to fix the problem.
Glad your problem got fixed.

Oh- my bad.
I hope your problem gets fixed soon....
You might want to ask around and see if there are other Vonage users in your area who are having the same problem and if they have the same ISP as you. Maybe, as my Voice Pulse friend suggested, it's a problem with the local ISP.
You might have read on the forums that many people have reported problems using Vonage with Comcast.
I wish I could be more help....

NateHoy/Steve, could improper QOS cause this? I mean, if there was any huge file sharing going on without any QOS, could it make it do that?
Do another test for us at www.testyourvoip.com, and do it to Boston. Then hit "detailed results" and copy and paste that here. |

It's a thought.
Carsten- What happens if you disconnect all your computers and try the phone? Any difference on incoming? |

I'm suspecting a port forwarding issue... The voice channel operates on a different port than the signalling, so it's possible that the Vonage box is seeing the Incoming Call signal, then goes to connect and isn't getting the voice connection. It's also entirely possible for this problem to lie somewhere else. Unfortunately, this isn't a clear-cut roblem. |
