Purchased this device over the weekend to see if it would help the QoS of my VoIP.
All I can say is WOW! This device really does work. The Voice quality is supurb. This device has also improved overall download and upload speed of my home network. I can surf, work at home via a VPN, and download large files, and the voice quality has no problems.
Whatever type of streaming technology Hawking Technology is using in the device, it certainly is working and is well worth the $$$.

The HBB1 works really well with VoIP - it uses a QoS chip built by Ubicom called Streamengine. Vonage should seriously consider incorporating this technology into their adapters, it would save them a lot of service calls.
The streamengine only manages upstream packets - it does nothing to downstream, as most providers have large downstream speeds, but relatively small upstream. |

And the same capability can be had in the D-Link DI-102 for about the same price. The two units both use the same Ubicom technology. |

I have to agree with the initial poster.
I got the Hawking device a few months ago and it has really helped my call quality.
Although I'm a fairly technical person, I really like this device for the average user since it does not require (or even allow) configuration for it to help out. |

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this piece of hardware. It sounds like it might be a good buy to try out with my Voip setup!
Thanks!

Does anyone have experience with both the Hawking unit and the Dlink unit? Since the prices seem similar, wonder if one has the edge over the other in terms of features or performance. |

I don't have any first hand user knowledge of the D-Link, but it uses the exact same Ubicom chip, so it should really work the same. I've had good success with the Hawking sitting in front of a Linksys WRT54G running 3rd party firmware and with QoS. The Linksys QoS simply doesn't perform the same function as the Streamengine chip. |

Thanks for the HBB1 Info!
I've assigned my Vonage phone's MAC address the highest setting for QoS in my wireless router but now I'll also take a look at getting a dedicated QoS device in the WAN path. |

Do the Hawking or Dlink units assume some sort of ISP support for packet prioritization, or is this fully ISP-independent?
I have broadband service from Adelphia (soon to be Time Warner) and I'd like to hear results from these ISPs users with either of these products.
TIA |
