In order to make my Hawking work I did have to set it up for a static IP. You'll need to know the local IP of your router and the IP of the hawking booster. You then log into the the Hawking device and put your router's IP in as the static IP.

It should then work (where it belongs, in between your ONT and the router.

Thank you. But I'm not sure I understand. I know my local IP of the router. As for local IP of Hawking device, I would know what it is and can probably set it as static if its behind the router (in LAN). If I put it between router (on WAN side), how would I know what it is (ahead of time) since its DHCP on the WAN side. Please elaborate. BTW, do you have pics ? Thanks again.

Sorry, I'm at home now so can be clearer.

1. Hook up your HBB1 in between your router and your ONT.
2. Open your browser and type in the default IP for the HBB1:
http://192.168.229.61/
3. Hit enter.
4. Don't put anything in the user name and password spaces that appear on your screen. Just hit enter. That brings you to the HBB1 configuration screen.
5. Click on Configuration
6. check "Enable Static IP Mode".
7. In the ISP Router Address box put the IP of your router.
8. Click Save.
9. Click the Reboot button and let the HBB1 reboot.

See how that works. You may need to do a complete reboot to make it work - that it shut down your PC, unplug your ONT device and your router and HBB1. Plug in ONT, wait till it resynchs. Plug in your router, let it synch. Then the HBB1.

I hope this helps.

Well, I went and bought this Broadband Booster from CompUSA earlier this evening. Just tried hooking it up. With Broadband Booster between the ONT and router, it doesn't work. I wouldn't get a WAN IPaddress. Oh well, too bad.

So I put the booster between, router and the Vonage phone adaptor (RT31P2). I guess, tomorrow, I'll ask my wife to make some calls to Brazil and see if voice quality is improved. If it does, it may be good enough for me.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this will help. The booster is now between your router and the Vonage device which means the only traffic that it will prioritize will be the Vonage traffic. This device needs to be where all the traffic goes through in order for it to work.

It can't hurt to try, but I don't think this will help your situation out.
You are of course absolutely right - you cannot assign a priority to each of 'n' types of packet when 'n' = 1. This device will only work when it is receiving a mixture of packet types that can be asssigned relative priorites.

However, even if 'oz_80' gets this device working between the ONT and the router I still don't think it will help his problem. The Broadband Booster only works on upstream packets, which equates of your voice as heard by the other party. Since Voip uses UDP and not TCP it isn't even necessary to consider acknowledge packets in the opposite direction. But, from 'oz_80's original post his problem is poor call quality in both directions, and dropped calls, but only on certain international destinations. This is a Vonage problem.

Tweber,
How do you know if you need to setup a static IP address? I have the Hawking and I can connect to the internet, but does that mean I still have to setup a static IP address?

Mike,

I knew because it wasn't working until I set it up that way. If yours is working you're probably okay.
