Can anyone who is using Vonage with "dry" Telus DSL clarify who to call first - Vonage or Telus?
I want to keep my existing Telus internet connection. If I call Vonage and move my number over to Vonage, will Telus disconnect my DSL?
I thought I'd call Telus first to unbundle the phone and Internet, but they may disconnect my phone number before Vonage has it.
Any ideas? Which is right? |

I haven't done this myself but take a look at this webpage which explains the process:
http://www.vonage.ca/features.php?feature=dsl
If you have any questions before you do it I would try contacting Vonage's LNP specialist at 416.907.6161 or email lnp_canada@vonage.com
Also, check this out. It has the contact information and department at Telus that you need. http://www.vonage.ca/canada/dsl/providers.html |

I've done it, and to my surprise the whole process was seamless. I tried Vonage for a few weeks with a temp. number (test drive), then started the process online to port my Telus number over. The whole process took just over 10 business days, and the process was smooth with no interruptions in phone or DSL. The transfer is now complete - no landline, but DSL is online and my old number is assigned to Vonage. I'm not sure how the billing for the DSL is going to work out, but I'm expecting to lose my $3/month discount for being having Telus Long Distance. I've read elsewhere that Telus charges $15/month for dry DSL unless you have a Telus Mobility account, but I have yet to find that out. My billing cycle for my landline ends in a few days, so I will see then how that end of things works out.
My friend who works at The Source (Radio Shack) and sells Vonage kits didn't even know this was possible yet.
I would say go ahead and initiate the transfer from Vonage without talking to Telus, but until I get the final results with billing, I can't offer any suggestions yet.
I'll keep things updated, since I haven't had much luck myself finding any info about Vonage / Telus DSL like yourself. |

That's encouraging! Great idea to use a temporary number at first...I'll do just that. I'm signing up tonight.
I'll let you know what the billling for DSL comes to as well - I confirmed with Telus that the $15 dry DSL surcharge can be waived if there's a Mobility account at the address, but it has to be requested, evidently. |
