Does anyone have any info about using your Vonage adapter w/ a wireless signal while on the road? i like to take my adapter w/ me when traveling. Great if the hotel provides wired connections. I just plug my adapter in and plug the hotel phone into the adapter. Some hotels offer only wireless i'net connections. that's the thing i'd like to get around. any ideas?

I do it all the time with my WIFI enabled Axim handheld + softphone. I think if you use a laptop to login to the service, there is a way to connect the laptop to the Vonage device and bridge the connection. I'll wait for the people that have done this answer up. I know it's possible, just don't remember the specifics.

I know about the softphone, but I was hoping to avoid that. I'd rather use a real hardware phone. that's one of the reasons i chose Vonage over some sip-thing, like skype. i think my goal is a longshot, but i thought i'd give it a shot anyway.

I was thinking (probably quite naively) that I could catch the wireless signal w/ my laptop, go through some (free) software that would allow me to plug my adapter into the rj45 jack of my lappy to suck on the signal. too farfetched?

I really should read more carefully hahaha. yeah, the bridge thing. that's what i want to do. Using the softphone on your Axim sounds cool too. Are you able to use that anywhere you can snarf an open wifi signal? Can you receive calls on that if you remain in a signal?

BTW I'm a 6 year nav vet. cgn41 and cvn68. western PA now. go steelers!

Oh yeah, the Axim thing is great. Comes with a neat tool that sniffs out open hotspots, so connecting is usually a snap. I can receive calls great while I'm located at a hotspot. I usually have it forwarded to my normal Vonage line when I'm not traveling.

10 year navy vet, cvn69! cvn74 and ddg51 to boot!

This might seem out of tune but have you considered a cell phone? A lot less gear to cart around.

i do have a cell, but it's my personal line and i have a limited no. of minutes per month. the last time i used in on business travel i ended up w/ $80 in overage charges. my Vonage line is a business line and i like the idea that i can carry it w/ me. the adapter isn't that much to carry. it slips right in my carry-on.

I'm a snipe too. nuclear MM. navydavy i was a s/y engineer doing overhaul testing on nuke systems for cvn69 when she was in nns in the mid-80s. see, now you know--i'm a geeky nuke and i just gotta mess w/ this stuff... just b/c.

Snipe, pardon me, retired IS much better than ex. Hell, at least you can shop at the exchange. I just bagged myself a job at Atlantic Fleet Headquarters with SAIC, and I'm STOKED about getting back to working with the fleet.
