Get ahold of one of the Linksys WRT54GL routers...and load on HyperWRT firmware on it. Then you can configure the WRT54GL router to act as a wireless client (just like a laptop) and then you've got 4 hardwired ports of internet + router. I've done it quite a few times with good results. I use this method quite commonly at trade shows when I don't feel like running phone lines all over the place. Just drop the router & Voip adapter off wherever they're requesting phone service, and that's it...no wires needed. |

Nah, I know it was probably those damn officers trying to make rank or some crap. Just so they could put "I ran 50 drills, ain't I cool?" on his fitrep.
I'll tell ya what, when I got my surface warfare, that engineering stuff nearly did me in. Can you say, "I'm a drop of water, how do I make the ship move?" Ugh! |

I was mostly on ocean going tugs and rescue salvage ships. We didn't have many drills on them because we mostly were working all the time. I started off in the bilges on my first ATF in 55. Was a chief on an ARS 64-68. A warrant machinist MPA on an AE 3 years, then an LDO on the last 3 ships. Anyone remember the 2JV sound powered phone system? (Engineers circuit). I'm sure I would have stayed in for 30 had I not gotten promoted to the wardroom. All the fun went out of the game after that.
If you gents figure out how to make Vonage work without carrying a suitcase full of electronics through the airport please post the formula. |

Oh yeah, the 2JV! Man, that takes me back to damage control and GQ drills. I volunteered to work in a repair locker for 3 years, man, that was fun! |

I once had a GQ station in an aux machinery room. only thing in there was an air compressor. i was supposed to man the 2jv and be ready to communicate about the compressor status (off). i hated the way that headset would cut into my scalp. i ended up carrying a foil-type gum wrapper w/ me all the time and when i was secured in the aux room and after checking in i'd stuff the wrapper into the connection jack. the connection was like a bad cell phone reception so they'd just tell me to go offline. i got lots of sleep at that station. |
