Post subject: 911 Call took 4 Minutes 48 Seconds to Route
I just cancelled my
Vonage
Service.
I was having issues getting my 911 service activated through
Vonage
. I kept getting emails saying that my address wasn't activated so I called customer service. They assured me that it did work and that the email was a system glitch.
I phoned ahead to the fire department to pre-arrange a test of the system and then called 911. From the time I dialed to the time I actually talked to local fire dispatch was 4 minutes and 48 seconds.
No ANI/ALI (name and address info) came in with the call. Instead the
Vonage
operator verbally told the FD dispatcher my address but missed a digit and told the FD dispatcher the wrong address. To top it all off, the call to the FD came in on a non-911 line which is reserved for the RCMP and private alarm companies to contact fire dispatch.
Needless to say, I went back to my traditional phone.
