The setup went just as advertized; I have an existing router and followed Direction A, plugged in our cordless phone and had a dialtone instantly.
I called my mother in PA and my sister in Florida and spent over two hours on the phone with no dropouts and the voice quality on BOTH ends was indistinguishable from a landline.
I even sent some photos to my sister in FL, a file of about 500mb while talking and there was not even a hiccup!
I know it's only been about three hours, but if this is any indication of the system's performance, I'm sold!
I can't wait to call my landline provider and tell them to shove their $80.00 per month bill up their A_S!

The cable modem is a 3COM CMX provided by my cable internet provider of over three years, Massillon Cable TV in northeast Ohio. The modem is old but it has been dependable.
Main router is a NR041 NetworkAnywhere (Linksys), Wireless access point is a Linksys WAP54G. We use 5.8Ghz cordless phones, also.
I bought the NR041 about a year ago to replace a dead Linky BEFSR41 wired router.
The Linky Voip RTP300 is connected to the NR041.
BTW, when I tested my connection through TestyourVOIP (I think that is what it's called) it scored 4.4 out of 5.0.
Now I'm waiting for my old phone co. to transfer our existing number. It is in the works.

I too am a brand new and satisfied Vonage customer.
Although... Living in SE Michigan and having Comcast as my ISP, I can tell you that if I would have read the ongoing Comcast vs Vonage thread before signing up with Vonage, I definitely would not have.
But I didn't read it, and I signed up with Vonage on 2/15, got my RTP300 on 2/17, had a Vonage dial tone about 10-minutes after taking the RTP300 out of the box, and have made many local and across the US calls and have not had one problem so far.

My test calls to Boston on http://testmyvoip.com have been 4.4 to Boston and 4.4 from Boston.
I requested my number get switched over 2/19, and SBC approved the transfer today 2/27, and Vonage says it is supposed to be transferred today.
I can say that without Comcast coming to my house a few months ago to replace the main cable from the pole across the street to my house, and without me changing the way I split the cable signal inside my house to my modem... I know without a doubt that my Vonage would be screwing up, as was my internet access.
I started having internet access issues, cable modem synch issues, and even a few cable channels not viewing properly a few months ago. When we moved into this house 3-years ago, everything was fine with cable modem internet access and tv channel viewing. But then intermittent problems with internet access started happening, and things seemed to be getting worse. It took (3) different techs out to my house and the last one finally said they need to replace the main cable from the pole to my house.
Once they did that the problems went away and I have not had a problem since.
I guess I need to keep my fingers crossed and hope all continues to go well with Vonage-Comcast, but so far so good for being in what seems to be the Vonage vs Comcast battle zone (the Midwest)! |
