I am a Vonage customer.
I run a server, and when it is uploading files to my users and I'm on the phone, the people I'm talking to can't make out what I am saying. I can however hear them with no problems.
When my server isn't uploading then everything is fine and folks hear me with no problem.
I am trying to avoid kicking people off my server while using the phone.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to make better use of my limited bandwidth. I'm limited to about 350 to 400 kbs on the up and I adjusted my bandwidth saver on Vonage to 30 kbs with no luck. |

Put a good router in front of the Vonage adapter, and enable QoS on it, favoring the Vonage adapter. |

I'd look into a better connection if you're running a server. 30KBps upstream is fine for most residential web browsing, but it's definitely not worthy of a server. A good router is also an essential, even moreso with a server running. Quality of Service is a feature you definitely will need for your application. |

As Steve and VonageTPA have both said, you need QoS, which will allow you to prioritize your Vonage traffic over your other server traffic and give you clearer audio.

Do realize that unless this is an internal server, most ISPs don't permit the use of servers. Hence the low upload bandwidth. I agree with the above posts that you need to get a good QoS router but eventually, the bandwidth cannot be sustained because it wasn't designed to handle the use of a server. |
