Post subject: Talkswitch drops call Vonage stays connected
I have a Talkswitch 48CVA connected to a Linksys RT31P2 that is sitting behind a Linksys WRT54G. Randomly, the Talkswitch drops the call with a loud sound - disconnect appears to take a few seconds. If you call the person back, they are still on the call, most of the time, not even realizing that you disconnected. I have placed several calls to Linksys and
Vonage
(both said to buy a new modem - so I purchased Linksys BEFCMU10 v4). Spoke to Talkswitch too, all without success. It's difficult to determine the real cause of this problem, when I'm on the
Voip
line with
Vonage
, I have yet to get disconnected, even while talking through the Talkswitch. I tried to swap the RT and WRT units, but still got disconnected. Also played with the QOS and firmware upgrades, all to no avail. Happens at all times of the day. I have Comcast service with the upgrade and get 700 upload and 8000 download speeds. It does seem like either the Linksys RT or the Talkswitch are rebooting, although the Talkswitch is immediately available for another call and sometimes the RT is not. Very frustrated, need some direction. Thanks in advance.

At least you have somewhat newer equipment. I have had this cisco ata switch for eons. I have noticed that it only drops inbound calls if I answer prior to the 3rd ring, or if the inbound call originates from a Tmobile, Sprint cell switch. All other inbound calls are ok except for those two.
Once in a while my phone adapter hangs up on the caller, and they are still connected, but this is usually fixed by simply rebooting my
hardware router and the ata switch. I can't imagine making calls without the router i.e. wide open to the internet (maybe it would drop less calls, but who knows).

Gsprenk,
You need to narrow the problem down. Assuming this is a fairly frequent occurrence, disconnect the Talkswitch and plug in a simple, corded phone. Does the problem occur now? If not, then you need to work on the Talkswitch. If it does, then you need to look at your modem, router, and
Vonage
device. If that's the situation, post all the information found in the sticky post at the top of the forum.

On your Talkswitch CVA, we have lots and lots of customers using that with
Vonage
. Your experience does not seem to fit Talkswitch. You say it might be rebooting, that you can tell, just look at the lights on the front of the Talkswitch. It takes a good 30 seconds or so to reboot, and, you'll see the lights flashing in order (line 1 -> line 2 -> data -> line 3 -> line4). IF it was rebooting, that is a problem. Most likely, your firmware got corrupted somehow, and, you can simply reload the firmware.
I don't see how disconnect with that loud sound can be Talkswitch, though one never knows until they find the root cause. But, that's just my experience.
Did you ever solve this problem?
