Hi everyone, I am a new Vonage customer, but have enjoyed reading these forums for several weeks now. I am very happy with my service, but am concerned about one thing. The first night we had the Vonage service up and running, my fiancé complained to me that she had gotten a call from her sister and while she could hear her sister, her sister could not hear her. She hung up and called back and it was fine. I know from reading these forums that this kind of problem can be caused by a lack of upstream bandwidth/latency and am not surprised that the issue cleared itself. I am not really concerned about these little bugs, but I am wondering how I am going to explain them to my fiancé? She is very smart but doesn't understand or want to understand the technology associated and I suspect she thinks this whole thing is just another one of my half baked high tech ideas that won't really work (in all fairness, I have had a few of those). I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem with a wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend/etc. and how you handled it? Thanx.

My wife was a bit suspicious of the whole setup as well. When we had a few hiccups early on, she really questioned my desire to switch over. The primary reason I was able to convincer her to do the switch was MONEY. We were always jumping through hoops to try and save some $'s on our phone bill (using calling cards for long distance, etc.). When she realized that she could use Vonage and not worry about how much she was talking and who she was calling, she was much more willing to put up with an occasional hiccup.
I did have to work a bit on my line connections and such to make sure my internet service was as solid as possible. Since I got some of the initial bugs worked out, the phone service has worked really well.
I also ran both phone systems (POTS and Vonage) in parallel for a couple of months just to prove out the Vonage system to her (and to me ). NOTE: my phone number was not eligible for portability, so I was stuck getting a new phone # regardless. |
