PostPosted: Sat Feb 25, 2006 11:45 am    Post subject: No i-net through router RTP300 Reply with quote Back to top

Location: Kuwait
ISP: DSL , Qnet
DL:455kbs UL:260kbs
DSL cord to D Link 1005D switch to Linksys RTP300 to phone/computer
tried the Voip test from here and it doesn't work, it didn't when the phone was working though so ?

I am on business in Kuwait temporarily, I brought my Vonage router with me, (yes I know they don't support that use, but it is temporary!) It worked fine for two weeks then the i-net and phone through the router stopped working. I reset everything and re-inputted everything as I did before (have to set static IP). Before I had at least a dial tone, now I do not even have that. I did everything that was in the book, with no luck. The internet and ethernet lights are on but to no avail. It just seems like there is no internet through the router. Does anyone have any suggestions? or is my router dead?

Do you still get internet service if you plug a computer directly into the Dnet switch or into the modem?

Yes, the i-net works fine when I hook my computer straight to the D-link switch. The only thing I have to do is inout the specific IP settings under TCP/IP properties to make it work, whereas to "talk" to the router I have to set that to "obtain IP address automatically"
Any ideas?

Other than to re-check the setup of the router, I'm afraid not. Maybe a hard reset and re-entering the necessary setup would work.

If you were able to get internet through the router, but had no phone service, I would suspect that your ISP had started blocking the service, but that doesn't seem to be the situation.

Is it possible that the ISP has started checking MAC numbers, and has decided that it likes your PC but not your Vonage router? Would it hurt to give them a call?

Does the router automatically obtain the same address that you manually input ?

I would entertain the idea that your IP changed.

Try hard reset then obtain automatically w/o the switch.
Next
Try Disable Block Anonymous Internet Requests and Filter Multicast temporarily on the rtp300.

Are you allowed more than 1 IP?
When it was working, was the computer and the router hooked into the switch separately? Or was the pc hooked to the router?

To Steve 48,

I have done a hard reset a few times already, if by that you mean pressing and holding the reset button for a period of time. I will call the I-net guys tommorow. I tried the clone MAC number procedure from the book with no luck.

Thank You!!!

To Since May '04

I have no idea how to check which addy the router obtains, I meant that I had to set the computer to obtain automatically so that the router could be accessed. I had to use static IP on the router, when it was working. They may have changed the IP for all I know. The i-net used to work through the router then it slowed down over a few nights and then died. I already disabled the blocks before with no luck.

Thank You!!!!!!!!

Any Ideas anyone?

Are you allowed more than one ip?

If you run start/run/cmd/ipconfig/all with DSL>computer And the computer set to obatain IP automatically. It should tell you the IP they gave you to use.
Then with the rtp300>computer 192.168.15.1 The status page should have the wan of your isp which should be the same as ipconfig/all you just ran.
If they are the same, try ping and traceroute.
The fact the lights are on and solid somehow tells me that the rtp300 see's the servers. You are oversees and making calls to the US; I assume.
Let us know.
Also,
The DHCP clients table on the rtp300 status page is a handy tool too.

I just read the factory reset has to be done by calling Vonage, then they give you a password to enter. If there is a reset in between the "factory reset" and the button you've done I don't know. I think there is more to the soft reset than just holding the button in for a couple of seconds. Like unplug then while holding the button, plug it in. Or something like that.

To May '04,

This will sound funny, but I left the thing (RTP300) unplugged all week and then plugged it back in re-inputed everything and now I have a dial tone, but still no i-net throught the router. I can NOT make a call. I called my ISP and let them know what was happening and they said that they have not changed anything. I checked the voice status on the router while I was trying to make a call and it says "seized" when I hear the ring tone and idle when I hang up the phone, Any Ideas?

Thank You!
