Just tried to send a 10-page fax to my husband with the backward DSL filter configuration. It errored out on page 2, error message 350, which is "the telephone connection was lost," which is almost always the one I get these days. Guess it will not improve my situation, which remains sporadic at best.
It is odd that the Cisco had no trouble faxing once they changed a minor setting at the Vonage end. The Motorola doesn't seem to like to fax at all with my HP.

Has anyone tried using a modem in a pc. I just figured I would use a phone jack splitter and run a line from my pc into a splitter. I have a scanner so I thought I could scan my document s and send them through the pc. I dont have a need to fax that often. Should I be able to receive faxes through my pc when needed? |

No way 56k will work at this time. when the T.38 standard is implemented it may be a possibility. |

T.38 is a codec for faxing over Voip it will have to be applyed by Vonage at the server side. Your fax machine should not know the differnce. |

So Vontage has to add the codac for you? That way they no you want to fax therefore can charge you accordingly? |

I don't think it works that way. With any new tech it takes a while to work out all of the bugs. It's just the nature of the beast.
I was a Class 5 software engineer fo 15 years, and belive me there more errors in the CO than are in Vonage. |

I've never heard of Vonage charging extra to send faxs over a voice line, have you? I know they offer that dedicated fax line, but they do sell it as an extra line with its own number. |

I finally found a resolution. I have a Brother MFC 3220C which does not work with Vonage, however, I have an old Brother MFC 4350 and it works. I believe it is because the old one has a baud rate limit of 14.4 k, but the new one has some higher baud rate. I sent out three test of 1 page, 3 page and 7 pages, and all worked. However, it seemed to take longer time to send.
You guys probably can go to ebay to buy some old fax machines for $50, and it may work. |
