Hey guys,
I live in Quebec and I recently got Vonage service, but I wanted to know if the 911 service would still be active on my disconnected Bell phone line (I still have dial-tone on the line)
Thanks |

yes, it should still work.. you can still dial 310 #'s too, like 310-1010 for pizza hut.. try it, it works in here in southern ontario anyways.. |

Eventually they'll come around and disco that line.
I would not rely on that line if you *HAD* to call 911 in a life threatening situation. |

Yep, that's right. Don't count on it as a back up. Bell is under no legal obligation to provide access to emergency services from a "disconnected" line. I checked this with the CRTC some time ago. In the US, the FCC requires telcos to maintain a "soft dial tone" and access to emergency services. No such requirement exists in Canada. |

I've worked for a while for a bell contractor and I've checked in their infobase system. They say they don't provide 911 but I never tested it. |

Hi, I from quebec to Sherbrooke to be exact. Wat about 911 provide by Vonage? I am currently testing vonage here and I not sure if i can do a 911 test.
When we call 911 from vonage, do we have to give our adresse or speak with an english operator? My kids do not speak english for now. If we must provide our adress, why we need to fill an 911 vonage form to tell where the IP adaptor are located?
Thanks |

apparently how it works for Vonage is, you dial 911 and you get some Central Vonage 911 centre, they try and look up your info, ask you, and then get the correct info if needed, then they send th call to the correct Emergency service in your area and they give your info to the Emerg serv in your area..
thats how it was set up, not sure if it's changed in the last couple months.. |
