Hello:
When trying to download my mail on Eudora since I have started using Vonage, I get the message.
Error getting network address for "pop3". Cause: Host not found (11001).
To get around that, I have been connecting the Network cable from the cable modem directly to my network router. That is - bypassing the Digital Phone adaptor. When I am finished, I reconnect the cable from the cable modem to to digital phone adaptor, and the cable from the phone adaptor to my network router.
This is becoming a real drag, connecting and reconnecting my router and phone adaptor. I would love to use mail raider without having to connect and disconnect the two pieces of hardware. Not only are the cat 5 network cables connected and reconnected, but the power supply for both.
So if anyone knows what setting to use for "Mail server Incoming :" I would like to know. |

What does your network look like? Is a Vonage router out front?
If so, you may want to disable the DNS proxy in the router. These instructions are for the WRTP54G and RTP300 routers.

Made an error - fighting the setting in my mail reader, and I did not change it back to the correct setting

The setting should be pop and not pop3, though I think it is the same error message. When I re-connect the Digital Phone adaptor tonight, I will note the exact error message - If I don't fix this first. |

I have my network setup as outlined in "Easy Installation with Multiple computers".
The Digital Phone Adaptor is between my cable modem and my network router
ISP is Rogers (Cable) Cable Modem is Terayon:
Digital Phone Adaptor is from Motorola, Although I can't determine the model number.
My Network router is the Linksy Etherfast Cable/DSL Router BEFSR41. It is not a wireless router. Three computers connected to the Linksys router.
Thanks for the URL. I will give that a try. |

No sucess yet.
I changed my DNS server following
http://vonage.nmhoy.net/dnsproxy.html
I can't see where to disable DNS Proxy with my BEFSR41. Perhaps it would be called something else and is the source of my problem.
I entered the DNS Server setting I get when use IPconfig when the computer is set directly to the internet, bypassing router and Digital phone adaptor.
In addition to the address obtained with ipconfig, i used the public dns servers.
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 64.71.255.198 4.4.2.6 4.4.2.5 Anyway, the above is what I get when I do ipconfig now.
I still am able to the surf the net when the digital phone adator is connected, but not able to download my mail. |

Is your mailreader using a customized port?
Maybe the Vonage adapter is using a port that the mailreader expects to use when you are on a call?
Dunno. It's a strange one... |

I have not done anything out of the ordinary in my setup of mail reader.
I have both Thunderbird and Eudora on this computer. Both work with connection excluding the Motorola adaptor. Thunderbird gives the error message.
Failed to connect to server pop.
What brings me to this board is that I was reading in an IT trade paper at work about a similar problem with another Voip service and ISP. It seems it was a setting to change in server name. He called his ISP, something I am trying to avoid as it means being on hold for 1/2 an hr. I don't know how supportive they will be as it is a problem arising from a product aside from their own.
I will look for the article tomorrow.
Rogers uses Yahoo for its mail, but I am able to acquire it with a server setting of Pop.
I would think other Rogers customers would have this problem, as someone has to have a router with a home network. When I bought and configured the linksys router four years ago, I had to make a custom setting. I had to brute force something, but for the life of me, I can not recall what it was.
I see with thunderbird I can change the Port. I plan on using Thunderbird in the future, but for now I use Eudora. The port is 110. |

I believe that Rogers uses DNS suffex to allow you to use "pop" as the mail server name instead of the full mail server domain name address. This will work if you have your computer directly connected to the modem but will not if you are using a router.
Try using the following server addresses in your mail client:
Incoming (POP) Server: pop.broadband.rogers.com
Outgoing (SMTP) Server: smtp.broadband.rogers.com |

That's it - Thanks. It works for for both Thunderbird and Eudora. |
