I've only been with Vonage for two months and I have to say that my experience has been good so far, customer service and all. I'm no geek but I understand a lot of the technical stuff. With that said, there is one thing that I don't understand about Vonage. The service uses my broadband connection so it must be accessible to my computer. I don't know why they don't offer a free softphone as part of the service. I would like to be able to make calls directly from my computer in addition to using a standard phone when I'm not at the computer, both using the same number. I don't want to pay a additional $9.95 a month for the additional softphone. Besides the fact that the additional cost would defeat the savings of using Vonage, I understand that it would mean a second phone number. Both are unacceptable to me. I already use Skype for special situations so I know that what I'm asking for is possible. Is there something that I'm not getting? Does anybody agree with me? Does the competition offer this feature? Does Vonage see that they're sort of missing boat? |

if you think they're missing the boat on the low demand softphone feature, you should see the features that people are clamoring for, that most all competitors offer. the wishlist forum is a good one to checkout. and it musn't be accessible to your computer. you could technically have a broadband connection, Vonage, and no computer at all. that would solve a lot of qos issues... |

It's rumored that after the IPO Vonage will release the SIP Credentials information. With that, you could use any SIP aware soft phone with your Vonage service. |
