I have an RTP300 v1.00.60 and since hooking it up, the receive voice volume has been way to loud.
I called support and they said the digital gain is set to -1, which is default. The tech adjusted it to -5 and I pulled my RTP300 power for 3 minutes and then reconnected to let it provision.
I made a test call and it's better, but still loud.
I'm using a Motorola MD6xx series multi handset cordless system with the volume set all the way down. I know it's not a phone handset issue because on my Sprint analog line i'd have the volume up a few notches below the lowest.
Anyways, Vonage can lower it even more, but I figured I'd check with others to see if they have had this problem and to see if they knew what their gain was set to. |

I don't know what mine is set at, exactly, but I had to have mine lowered a couple of times until it was right, and it's still a tad loud, but bearable.
Call back and have them tweak it again. They'll get you all set up. |

it took a couple times on mine (the rt31p2 was a lot easier than the rtp300) but here's what we ended up with.
RING_DC_OFFSET: 0 RING_FREQUENCY: 20 TX_ON_HOOK_DGTL_GAIN: 3 TX_OFF_HOOK_DGTL_GAIN: 4 COUNTRY_SETTINGS: NA_FCC68 RX_OFF_HOOK_DGTL_GAIN: -15 RX_ON_HOOK_DGTL_GAIN: -15 OFF_HOOK_CURRENT: 23 ON_HOOK_VOLTS: 48 RX_GAIN: -16 TX_GAIN: 0 RX_GAIN_AN: -56 TX_GAIN_AN: 0 LINE_EC: 1 FXS_IMPEDANCE: 600 FXS_REN: 5 FLASH_MIN_DURATION: 300 FLASH_MAX_DURATION: 1000 CPC_WAIT: 200 CPC_DURATION: 850 |

The guy I spoke with had no idea how to set it on an RPT300. Talked to someone else who told him to adjust the RX Digital Gain. So I assume he adjusted on hook and off hook.
I see your devices has an RX Gain and an RX Gain An. Do you know if there are adjusted beyond default as well?
I wish I could tweak this myself instead of waiting 20 minutes for someone who doesn't know what they are doing. |

I tried this and customer support claimed they had no ability to change the volume on the device. They directed me to lower the volume on my phones. This of course is useless advice because because they are all already at minimum volume. |

The person you spoke with was obviously incorrect.
I never called back after the initial adjustment, even though volume was still high. However, a few weeks later, volume got better, so perhaps Vonage made a general overall adjustment to RTP300's |

That's what they told me at first. I told them (politely) that I knew that was a load of bull and that I wanted the volume that the Vonage device supplied lowered, because my speakerphone was deafening when set at the absolute lowest volume, and actually to the point of speaker overload/distortion when set at one level above lowest, and I feared for damage to my telephone equipment (and was tired of holding all of my phones three feet from my head when they were set at the absolute lowest volume).
I eventually got connected to someone who said "OK" and did it, though he made a miniscule adjustment and never checked on it. Then a kind Vonage rep who was on the forum got ahold of me, called me, and we walked through a few adjustments until it was acceptable. I don't know what the setting is now, but I can use my phones properly again, so I don't really care.
Don't give up. Vonage has a large crop of newbies who don't seem to understand their devices as well as they could. |

I won't give up, but I don't have ages to try this again and again with customer service. Vonage people reading this - please help!
I wonder why the default volume is so high in the first place. It is deafening when a "loud talker" calls. I have to hold the handset an inch off of my ear in such situatons. |
