RTP300 Router Not picking up IP/DNS info from COMCAST

Post subject: RTP300 Router Not picking up IP/DNS info from COMCAST
I have an RTP300 plugged into my existing BEFSR41 Linksys and
VOIP
works just fine. I tried to take BEFSR41 out of the equation last night altogether and just run my entire network on RTP300 - no such luck. RTP300 absolutely positively will not pick up IP/DNS info from Comcast Cable modem. Thus - I get no Internet on my PCs and No
VOIP
service on my phone. If I insert RTP300 behind my trusty (but slow) BEFSR41 - everything runs OK (but not as fast as I'd like it to). I am thinking that I may need to clone a MAC address or something off one of my PC's - but then I don't see why my BEFSR41 doesn't require me to clone MAC. Someone wrote here that COMCAST may be blocking certain
VOIP
ports on their site - but then again it does not make a whole lot of sense. My RTP300 wouldn't work at all then. As it is now - it ONLY wants to work as promised behind a poky old BEFSR41 Router. It should be able to sit alone and run my whole network (10 Windoze PCs and 3 Macs) + 2 network printers + a couple of wireless access points. I'd love to continue and run my network as 192.168.1.XXX, and it seems that RTP300 wants to be 192.168.15.X - I see where I can change that, but it does not seem to work well. I'd hate to re-configure my entire network. I have a LOT of static IPs assigned to printers and certain PC's
Any and all ideas and suggestions - would be greatly appreaciated.
Thank you.

You have to trick your cable modem to think it connecting to a brand new device. Usually when the cable modem has a computer connected to it, it knows the mac address of that computer and will only talk with that computer. In order to reset it's memory, just unplug it for about 1-2 minutes and then power it up without anything connected to it. Then connect your rtp300 to it and power it up.
Good luck.
