the audio quality on my phone (via Comcast cable) has been getting progressively worse. I have run several online QOS tests, they all looked normal. In the process of working on it this morning, my modem became non-functional after a power cycle...everything looked normal, Comcast could ping it, but it wasn't handing out an IP address. Replaced the modem, wham, much better audio quality.


Interesting that the online tests appear to test up to the modem (or the router one hop before it) so would tend to miss a modem issue.

well, my better audio quality was short-lived. On the horn with Vonage now.
