I am going to China this summer and i would like to know if vonage works there. Is it blocked by the Great Firewall of China? |

Yes it works but you have to turn it upside down. |

I'm using Vonage in Shanghai right now. I have no problems. I just had to set up a router though to use it with ADSL. |

I am having problems getting my Vonage to work in Shanghai, China. I got it to work for 1 call this week, and then nothing. I have everything else working. The internet is fine. The Phone light is on. There is just consistently no dial tone. I know it will work because I already got it to work once, I am just baffled. Does anyone have a suggestion. (I am using a Linksys RT31P2 Router). Thanks for any help. |

Did you solve your issues? I'm moving to Shanghai soon and am wondering if Vonage will work for me. Thanks! |

Not yet.
I got an e-mail attachment from a guy at vonage customer service that has the firmware in it that he says was not loading onto my device when I was installing it. However, when I went to manually install that firmware on my device, the password screen to access the firmware kept interrupting me. If I can get past that, it should work, but there are no guarantees. This is for Vonage service with the Linksys RT Router. My friend has a Motorola Router and his service works just fine here in Shanghai. If you have the Linksys though, I can e-mail you the Firmware packet they gave me, and hopefully you will have more success than I have had. I will keep this board posted. |

OK, thanks to the help of two awesome customer service reps at Vonage, we have figured out how to solve my Vonage problem in Shanghai, China. What happened was that the Firmware was not making it from Vonage, so the customer service reps e-mailed me the Firmware Upgrade. When I went to install it initially, it didn't work, because I needed password information to install it correctly. So, I called back, they took me through the password steps (there are three prompts for your password - you need a different one for all three). After this, I shut everything down, rebooted, and now it works consistently. It's only the first night, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If you have a problem with the Linksys router in Shanghai, you probably need this Firmware Upgrade, and then you'll have to sit on the phone with them to help you through the password prompt screens. Good luck. |

I may be moving to Macau. Is all that is necessary to move my Vonage account from the States a High-Speed Internet access and router? Also, what happens to my US phone #? Is that changed to a local Macau #? |

Macau? oh wow
no your number will stay the same as always, as long as you have a solid internet connection you should be fine. |
