3 call examples all today 20th Feb 06.
1st example UK Time 19:52 from a BT Cellnet mobile Caller Dialled 3 times only on 3rd attempt successfullly got through. 1st 2 attempts, got crackly line with what sounds like a woman repeatedly saying something very indistinct like "please retry". Could not hear called person.
Vonage Receiver 1st attempt did not answer phone. 2nd attempt answered phone, could hear caller distinctly but caller could not hear them. 3rd attempt successful.
Activity log on Vonage account only shows 2 calls. However, phone's handset shows 3 calls received.
2nd example 21:19 from a BT landline Caller made one dial attempt. Got crackly line with what sounds like a woman repeatedly saying something very indistinct like "please retry". Could not hear called person. Vonage receiver could clearly hear caller, but caller could not hear us. Called caller back successfully
3rd example 21:58 from same BT Cellnet mobile
Caller - Two dial attempts made, 2nd attempt successful. 1st attempt got crackly line with what sounds like a woman repeatedly saying something very indistinct like "please retry". Could not hear called person.
Vonage Receiver Could clearly hear caller, but caller could not hear us.
* this is a recurring problem * I have had this problem over 2 different routers * have had this from callers on other networks,
If you have this problem, ... please call Vonage customer care and get them to add your details to ticket 3953392. |

Hi - not had the same symptoms as you but have had callers ring and have heard sounds like a fax machine dialling out. This is only intermittent and has been reported to Vonage. they say they have investigated and have not been able to reproduce the sounds when dialling my number.
I have given up expecting this issue to be sorted, it is only intermittent and most calls are fine.
Hope you have some success with your issue. |

it does sound like the same thing ... until I listened very carefully I thought it sounded like a fax line too.
It is intermittent but when it happens it seems not to go away for a little while (eg the examples I gave all in one night).
Thanks for your input. |

I've been having the same problems myself, I thought it was just me though.
I'll ring Vonage and report it tonight, has anyone managed to get any compensation from Vonage because of this? Like a couple months free etc. |

I had the same problem again tonight, and managed to record what I could hear.
See here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/iandrake/
The 3 smaller files are what I could hear (as caller) on 3 different attempts.
The bigger file is what could be heard on the voicemail recorded.
The beeping sound is what my Nokia phone includes on the signal to show it's recording.
The problem is: - caller can't hear person called talking - loud crackling (fax like?) sound - loud distorted woman talking (not the person called!), sounds like a recording (maybe saying "please replace the receiver"?) |

I had "Tier 3" customer service call me today about this problem ... still investigating ... no news.
Anyone else heard similar issues, any news?
Of course knowing you've got the problem relies on the caller telling you ... most people just give up, don't bother calling or callback later and don't tell you.
The instances I recorded were all where I was calling home from my mobile. |

"Tier 3" do appear to have fixed the problem - I don't know how, but it hasn't happened for many weeks now. |
