I have called several times to see if an existing customer is able to buy an F1000 phone without a new account and have been told no each time. I am unable to buy this phone at a retailer, which would be a great option for most of the other adapters, so I bought one on ebay. I haven't had a chance to call to transfer my service to the new phone, but from what I've read.. I can't use the used phone adapter. Obviously, I should have done more research before doing this, but I didn't think there would have been an issue.

Any ideas or advice would be great on being able to activate this device?

Thanks!!

Straight from the Vonage web site.....

Vonage Basics

I bought a Phone Adapter from eBay; how can I use it?

We do not support devices acquired through re-sale or auction. We supply you with a pre-configured telephone adapter that you can connect to your standard phone at sign-up.

No, the phone was previously owned by a Vonage customer that ordered the phone, but then decided he no longer wanted the service.

...Which means it was probably stolen. It can be done, but you'll have to get in contact with the previous owner.

WOW. Pretty harsh conclusion. I sell loads of stuff on ebay that I no longer need, does that make me a thief as well?

I too want their wifi phone, amazing that they find new customers more important than their existing ones Sad

If it wasn't stolen than the person you baught it from will be able to identify his previous account, he will need to agree to have the device removed from the term account, and be able to verify the security information. Then a ticket will be created to have the device moved to your account.

Existing Vonage customers CAN buy "unlocked" F1000 WiFi phones and then use them with Vonage soft phone accounts. This is likely more convenient than getting a complete new account.

Hi, I have been a Vonage customer for over a year now, When the F1000 was released to the public at first I was told no I cant change my service for the wifi phone but I was told to wait two weeks and try again because they were going to allow it at that time. I waited and called back and the change was done, got my F1000 phone with my Vonage old number in a few days. It's been two months now and all is good. The only thing is now when i'm home and walk out of the range of my network the phone drops connection but while i'm still in range all is good. I wish they would have sold the phone that when you get home you can plug the F1000 in the router for charging and have it activate my home wirering so that I can have access all over my home not just within the routers limit. I had better reach with my cordless phone around the house. But all and all it has been good and convenient.

I agree that Vonage did a pretty horrific job making the phone available to their current customers. Whatever you do, DON'T call customer service for advice. I spoke to 3 different reps, and got three conflicting stories. As of now, you must open a new (additional) account to get the phone. It's not all bad, however. Believe it or not, you can refer yourself!! Send a referal to your secondary e-mail adress, then accept. Your old account will be credited with 2 months, and your new account 1 month. As far as the phone, I was impressed. I expected to only be able to use at home, or some public hotspot, but surprisingly, you can leech off of just about any non-encrypted wireless. Last night, I brought it over to a friend's house to show her. (she doesn't have wireless internet, so I knew it wouldn't work) Surprisingly, 4 neighbors DID have a wireless account, and I was able to sponge from them. It is amazing how easy it is to find a non WEP spot just about anywhere where the population exceeds 1000. Lol
