I've experienced delays receiving voice mails recently -- it's probably happened 4-5 times in the past month, but twice in the past week. Someone leaves me a voicemail and I don't get an e-mail alert or a dialtone alert. The next time I get a voicemail, I receive an e-mail alert telling me I have 2 unreviewed messages.
My info: 1. Location: Denver, CO 2. Broadband: DSL -- Qwest ISP 3. Speed: 760k up / 1.5m down 4. Modem: Microsoft DSL 1000 5. Vonage Adapter: RT31P2 6. Network: Modem-->Vonage Adapter-->Wireless Router-->PC |

I noticed this problem yesterday as well. Even the e-mail alert did not work although if you go into the dashboard the message will be there. I did a complete reset of my system and it immediately started to work again, and has ever since. Probably not a permanent solution but it worked for now!!!! |

How did you reset your system? If you are talking about resetting your hardware, I don't think that will do the trick because the e-mail alerts don't have anything to do with the hardware.
Thanks. |

You're right, I actually just rebooted...... wrong terminology. Maybe it was coincidence I'm not sure. The light on my cordless phone also did not work but works now too. |

Glad to see this issue on the board. I've been experiencing delayed voicemails sporadically for the past 6 months. It's very intermittent but it's been my boss twice when voicemails didn't show up until the next day (very embarassing). Last week it was my father in law telling me my wife's mother had been put in the hospital. I'm sure there are thousands of users experiencing similar delays. I'm switching back to Qwest this Thursday because I don't really want to actively manage my phone service. I get lots of dropped calls, echoing and other such nonsense. I kept thinking that they would eventually get this together because it shouldn't be that hard. I think Wall Street sees the same problem - poor retention because the product is substandard. I've had OK experiences with their service people but if the product worked I wouldn't have to call them in the first place. When it works it's fine. When it doesn't work, it creates more problems than the savings justify. |

Going to have to go back on my old rant. The real problem with Vonage is poor customer education. If more customers realized that Voip is more similar to Cell phone service than it is Landline service there wouldn't be so many angry customers.
That said. The way the voicemail notification works at your device is a SIP NOTIFY packet is sent to your device saying either that you have voicemail, or that you don't have voicemail. This packet is only sent once per toggle, so if you're experiencing any packet loss, this is usually the first symptom. Sometimes the stutter tone doesn't go away, and sometimes you aren't notified of voicemails right away or at all. The only fix for this is to call your voicemail and make changes, either delete voicemails, which will resend the NOTIFY, or leave a voicemail, or if you have no voicemails and its still stuttering, call it and leave a message, hang up and call back to delete it. If the Email is actually delayed, that usually just means high network traffic on the Vonage network, and its taking a long time to send every user who needs them the NOTIFY packets. |

Data,
Thanks for the reply and the information. I have copied a test that I just did for your opinion. I'm still learning about this service and I was well aware that there would be glitches and right now I'm a sponge for information about the whole system.
Do you think having previously read voicemail in the system has anything to do with this problem. I've noticed that the second voicemail usually flushes out the notification.
Thanks for your help!

I've recently been seeing the same issue. Been a Vonage user for about 2 years with no real problems. Just lately have seen (heard) fast busys to specific area codes and now seeing delayed voicemail notifications. I'll post my testyourvoip numbers once I get back home if that will help. |

I'm having similar experiences, only in the last few weeks after using Vonage for over a year.
I lose some voicemails altogether; I get long-delayed notifications of others (e.g., more than a day). Sometimes I can flush out a "hidden" voicemail by sending one, which then prompts a notification of both the "hidden" one and the one I sent.
I have no clue why this would be happening now, and not at all previously (as far as I know). I do know my service data fluctuate widely over short intervals now, though I don't know how long this has been the case. But even the poorest ratings I've been getting wouldn't seem to explain the voicemail problem.
Current ratings:
