I know this has been discussed in this forum but since E911 is being introduced to Customers I didn't think it would hurt to refresh this subject.
1. If you do not know if a 911 test call is allowed in your aera, call your local police department and ask.
2. If you have occasional dropped calls, you can run a www.testyourvoip.com test to check the status of your connection before placing the test call.
((Test call to Boston then get detailed results))
3. When placing the test call say this: This is a 911 test call to verify my correct address and callback number are being displayed and to ensure this call was directed to the correct aera.
(being precise and clear saves time)
***When I placed my E911 test call we found discrepencies.
My callback number is incorrect - its listed as a broadband number? Completely different than my phone number.
***My address was correct but my location was incorrect, I was listed as being in the city whereas im in the township *( The Dispatch informed me in the event this was an emergency call and the call was lost they would send police out to the wrong area )
***When making this test call my connection dropped and I had to wait for my phone to reconnect before calling back to say this is a test call and before they sent the police out (to the wrong aera even)
I have notified my voip service provider of these discrepencies, they have issued a ticket # and forwarded this to the correct department. I have a 24 to 72 hour period before being contacted via email or phone call.
This info. is intended to be helpful to others making a E911 test call. |

Guess I ran across my own fix on this one..
Found this in the VONAGE TERMS OF SERVICE
1.8 Possible Lack of Automatic Number Identification. It may or may not be possible for the local emergency personnel to automatically obtain your phone number when you use 911 Dialing. Our system is configured to send the automatic number identification information; however, one or more telephone companies, not us, route the traffic to the emergency response center and that center may not be capable of receiving and passing on that information. As a result, the operator who answers your 911 Dialing call may not be able to automatically obtain your phone number and call you back if the call is not completed or is not forwarded, is dropped or disconnected, if you are unable to speak to tell the operator your phone number, or if the Service is not operational for any reason. |

Feb 18, 2006 10:00 AM *edit out my number*18662434357 00:03:00 3405515034 = My call info. to CS
Im going on 91 hours now with no feedback from Customer Support.
Since this is a E911 issue I thought it would be of importance. |
