I recently recommended Vonage to a friend, based on my experience with them for the past year. When I signed up the VT1000 was not available, so I got the ATA186 and router deal. It has worked wonderful as I rarely have to reboot the box (once every 2-4 months). Now I am new to the forums and I see a few complaints about the VT1000. I was thinking about calling Vonage to upgrade to the VT1000 because I understand it has QoS. But now I'm having second thoughts. So my question to the group is which box is better and do they still offer the Cisco box? Thanks.

I have the Cisco ATA. Since I have never used the Motorola box, my comment is limited.

The Cisco box has always worked for me. From what I have read in the forum, the Moto box has not been as reliable.

I called Customer Service and was informed that the Cisco box was no longer available.

These comments are from my experience, and other user's may vary.

I signed up in Feb04 and received a VT1005. Over the last month and ahalf I have noticed great improvements in the quality of sound and security. I think that most of the posts complaining about the VT1005 are old and when the firmware was still getting tweaked in. Overall everything has worked real well for me. My setup is: Cable Modem -> MTA -> Router -> PC.

I will second strange_69's comments. I have my Motorola connected as strange_69 does. Since Vonage upgrade the software on it to 1.16d, I have had ZERO problems - ZERO reboots required. QOS is just fine.

I have the VT1005 and after getting my router issues worked out it is great...I run the MTA behind the router so the QOS is not a featrue that I take advantage of. My voice quality is => than my POTS line.

My frindly advice is that if it is not broken dont fix it....that said it seem that things with Vonage keep getting better so there might be a good reason to switch.

good luck.
