I have the WRTP54G router and a Buffalo Terastation network storage device. I plug an ethernet cable from the terastation to the router and nothing. it seems like the router doesn't see the terastation. the terastation link light blink rapidly but nothing. i took the terastation to work and plugged into the network there and it worked fine.
Has anyone had a similar issue and is there a resolution? I have firmware version 1.00.60 for the router. |

Is DHCP enabled on the WRTP54G?
I the Buffalo configured to get it's IP address from another device? I'd check those two things first. |

Yes DHCP is enabled. There are no other routers on my network. I tried something for the hell of it....i connected the buffalo to a switch which is of course connected to that router. It then worked! ****? i connected it back to the router directly and bamn, not recognized again.
Is there a flaw in the router? Is it not autosensing correctly? Anyone else have a terastation to verify? I was hoping to be able to solve this without adding another switch to my network. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks! |

I don't have a Buffalo, but I have several various wired network devices, and I've never had an autosensing problem. That's not to say you don't have one that does, though.
Are there any relevant networking settings on the Buffalo? Can you force it to 100mbit duplex or try various settings? Do you get a LAN light when you plug it in?
And, the obvious but easily overlooked question - are you using the same patch cable to plug the Buffalo into the switch and the router? |

yes, i've looked into all of that and everything is fine. if i put a switch between the router and terastation it's fine, if i connect directly, it's bunk.
it's gotta be a linksys issue since it works with a different linksys router i have at work. |

I have the same problem here -- with my newly purchased TeraStation. I can connect directly, using a static IP address, to one of my machines. However, as soon as I set it up on the router, it is not detectable!
I've tried using DHCP as well as giving it a static IP address, and I still cannot connect, as long as it is in my router. BIG problem for me, since I have to use the router to connect the thing!!
(BTW, what is a switch, and how is that different from a router?)
Thanks for any more help anyone can give!!

How would the switch be installed? Would it go like this:
Modem > Switch > Router (Where the TeraStation would branch off at the switch)
or...
Modem > Router > Switch
?
Thanks! Darren
