Newbie Question.

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to the Vonage service. I just got my Motorola box yesterday and installed it. Made my first test call to my brother last night. I have to say I am impressed! I called all my family and no one could tell that I was not calling on a POTS line.

So I have a quick question for everyone. What does "ATA" stand for. And, is the Motorola box Vonage shipped to me considered an ATA or IAD device?

ATA=Analog Telephone Adapter

The Motorola is an MTA (Media Terminal Adapter). I think this is just a choice of words.

The ATA did not act as a NAT router, but just as a bridge from what I understand. So for people with one IP you had to have a router. The MTA can act as a router, but most of us wind up using it behind a router anyway.
