I totally agree with UMP25. There is absolutely no way comcast would be able to do anything to your
Vonage
connection. I just quit working for Comcast in October. I worked in the CHSI department (comcast high speed internet). There's no tool or function we could use to effect
Vonage
. They would have to search for and block every
Vonage
IP address in order to do that. NO WAY. I have comcast Home Networking and I had Comcast digital voice.(CDV/VOIP) CDV ****. It doesn't even work half the time. Most areas can't even check voicemail online. I finally got rid of it which is why I'm looking to get
Vonage
. I just wanted to know if anyone that has a Comcast Home Networking Gateway has any trouble using the
Vonage
router with it?
"ABSOLUTELY NO WAY"? Then how do yo explain what Madison River did, and why they paid a fine? See:

Yes it is possible, and has been done before by others. Perhaps you do not have the skills, but others do and have don it
If you would read the whole forum, you have read the links quoting many experts saying that it is possible. If you would have read just a couple of days worth, you could have avoided foot in mouth syndrome
.
I did avoid the Foot in mouth syndrome. Without putting myself out there, I was a lot higher up on the food chain at Comcast than you think. I was a decision maker and this issue did come up specifically with
Vonage
. I did not mean that there is "Absolutely No Way". I'm simply saying that Comcast did not, and as far as I know, would not take the time to do it. I also read ALL of the posts before I posted that message. My skills are up to par, so get your facts strait before you try to clown me. I simply posted that to give you a view from the inside. In no way shape or form do I support Comcast, so it was not intended for their defense.

Then I forwarded my packet loss information along with the Domains that are dropping them to my cable companies corporate office to have them rectify why there technicians can't fix this.
hmmmmm maybe if I changed my username to George or Tom my posts might be taken more seriously..........
The point I was trying to make is that traceroute is not a reliable indicator of forwarding plane problems because routers can be set up to either throttle or discard ICMP messages. It can be used as a good place to start looking. I guess I mean that we can use these tools to help our ISP determine the problem. I don't work for Comcast or any other service provider. I don't make assumptions based on screen names as you can make them whatever you want...
regarding the username statement.... was for those that keep posting saying they can't pinpoint the packet loss....... I had previously posted a tool that can pinpoint the precise place of the packet loss. .............. for if they think thats why there
Voip
is screwing up.

Glad you finally agree that it is technically possible.
We'll take your word for it (that they have decided not to block vonage), but I still think the FCC needs to investigate it,. Afterall, Can you confirm that comcast has not changed their position after you left?, and just why did you leave and where are you now working?
Since you were a "higher up" can you confirm just exactly what problem comcast was having that prompted
Vonage
to post their service announcement, and why comcast did not post a service announcement. It is the lack of disclosure by both comcast and
Vonage
is what keeps this issue alive.
Those who compare this theory to believing in aliens and "ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE" are just off base and not consistent with the historical facts. Just IMHO.
enough said, New subject.
Is anyone else not able to access this forum from their comcast connection?
I could not access it last night from my comcast connection (but everything else was fine), and could not access it this morning (from my comcast connection), but now that I am at a coffee house and on a different connection, I can access it fine. The problem is limited to this forum.
What gives?

Nothing to do with Comcast. I'm on a different provider and had the same thing. I think Dan forgot to feed the gerbils before he left for the day.

No, I got caught with my pants down. I am running on 1/4 CPU during a kernal patch and we got Slashdoted.

Thanks, that's good to know.
once the Paranoia starts, it can feed on anything. Comcast and
Vonage
really need to come out with a public explanation of the
Vonage
service message and what the problem was it they want this to die its proper death.
Comcast and
Vonage
execs reading this?????

Post subject: Comcast finally comes through!
Hello All,
Well, after a few more calls
Vonage
and Comcast, Comcast finally said that it appeared that something was causing packet loss with my connection. This last time when I called, I didn't mention anything to do with
Vonage
, but I did start a 300 MB upload (I have high-res PDFs that are sent to a commercial printer's server via FTP) while I had Comcast on the line.
Coincidentally, while they were on the line I noticed my cable modem was rebooting. I asked if the service tech had reset the modem and he said that hadn't but did see it happening. I was using a Motorola SurfBoard 5120 (which was only a year or so old from what I remember). A service tech came out the same day (Friday, 24th) and swapped out the old modem with a Scientific-Atlanta DPC2100 modem and (VERY LOUD KNOCKS ON WOOD) so far the recipients of my call haven't experienced any my dropped audio as before. I haven't held any real long calls, but a few have been around 15 minutes or so. With the old modem I would have had at least 5 or so audio drops.
Hopefully it was all due to a faulty modem, but seems weird that my issues started around the same time many of the other posters on this forum ran into issues. Anyway, it took too many calls to get Comcast out here (every time I called they would always give me the "it (the modem) looks like it is operating fine to us" routine.
Most of you probably rent the modem as I do, MAKE them give you a service call! Keep calling! I would think that if you rent this equipment you should be able to ask for a replacement at any time.
Good luck to all and I'll update the forum as to the quality of service in a couple weeks or so.

Comcast told me my signal was weak and that's why
Vonage
was gving me bad service. I called V to complain and the guy there told me he believes that Comcast is known for intentionally messing up peoples cable service so that
Vonage
customers would switch to their IP phone about to come out. I told CC to fix my weak signal, but no one has so far. Too bad they have the monopoly in cable lines. How did we let that happen?

This has been an ongoing discussion in this thread, even though there is no concrete proof to substantiate such claims.
