Does anybody remember who or how someone wrote software that would monitor Signal from the modem and update every sec or so on a log?

My Power Level has rarely been above -13 and sometimes spikes down to -16.

External logs... I have my Comcast gateway's IP in there along with all of my other servers. I have it set to ping the Comcast every 2 minutes.... after 2 consecutive failures, it then registers it as a "connection down," pages me, and switches over to a DSL backup line. My DNS server sits on a Qwest fiber line, which keeps me on-line even when everything's switching back & forth.

Interesting thread. But ICMP tools have their limits and I think some of you have exhausted them. How about sniffing your SIP and RTP traffic when you have these issues and posting some of that here? Thus, is this a SIP signaling problem? Do the folks having the problem talk to the same SIP servers, while those of us like me with Vonage working fine at home via cable modem are using different proxies? And what does the media traffic look like?

A quick ethereal capture can help generate some of this data...

Pings are interesting but less useful than 10 yrs ago. Routers prioritize ICMP packets down so during times when router CPUs are being used (software updates, config changes, SNMP checks, or large traffic bursts), ICMP packets get basically ignored. So interesting, but ultimately application-layer monitoring is what is interesting and useful.

Sorry to be controversial but since my post all I see is sort of general bellyaching. I'll say again, that the only useful thing to move this discussion forward with be SIP and RTP packet analysis from a packet sniffer (download ethereal). That will show us stuff about what might be happening on the application layer...

Just tryin' to help...

In my house, my Vonage only has issues when I am using my wifi network at the same time as my 2.4Ghz phoneset. Wink

I live in Southeastern part of Michigan, and I am also having difficulties with my Vonage telephone. I also believe that it is Comcast, since I can get all the other sites, except Vonage. my telephone also is somewhat degraded in quality, and if I make a call, I have a 50/50 chance that the person on the other end can here me.

Thanks Comcast

I have filed a complaint with the FCC (you can do it online) asking that it order Comcast to cease and desist blocking access to the Vonage website and to levy a heavy fine against it. I have also asked Durbin, Obama and Emanuel to make sure the FCC acts swiftly; and have contacted the Chicago Tribune telling them about this.

Don't let Comcast get away with this!!

How do you file a complaint online? Can you list the website?

Thanks,

those were exactly the problems I was having, but I have not had a problem since vonage took down their service announcement some time go. Coincidence? or did vonage know exactly what was going on?

I can't help but wonder if the main problem, blocking or otherwise, has been solved; but what is left is a number of isolated local problems with broadband, which unfortunaely would be normal at any given time.

Here is the link to the FCC consumer complaint form:

http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cib/fcc475.cfm

The form is obviously very old; it assumes the complaint is about phone service. You still have to type in the phone number as though that's the problem, but just describe your real problem in the box that allows the explanation.

I sent a second complaint though the general complaint email address, too. fccinfo@fcc.gov
