I have the Linksys WRTP54G router and wireless acess point.
When i have the wireless enabled my connection to the internet is very slow on the wired desktop. If i disable the wireless on the router it is better, still not full speed. I have all the correct port forwarding on and it is all working but very very slowly.
I had a different wireless router before and it was fine. this is a new problem that came with Vonage.

Please help, I am getting lag killed all over in online games!

Define "slower". Are we talking 1000ms latency? 50k download where you used to have 5mb?

The WRTP54G is not an incredibly impressive router. Even so, I don't do online games, but I would think it would be able to handle them pretty easily.

One possible solution: Do you still have the old one? Put it in front of the WRTP54G and see if it solves your problem. Wink

It could also be a DNS issue. NateHoy, I can't find the link to your instructions, so maybe you could post it again...

The only reason i thought that may be the cause, is since a lot of people say slow internet, not slow connecting, and then after some proding you find out that they also get timeouts as well. Figured we were waiting for his response anyway...

No criticism intended. It's worth a shot. But timeouts that long in a game'll get you dropped off the server, not killed. (grin)

hey,
Thanks for the replies.

The speed will fluctuate from about 2.5m to under 1m as it was 4m -4.5mps before.
there are not timeouts just very slow connection.
the phone works well and there are no dropped calls or bad connections.

i set it up with a static ip and opened the ports i had tried to disable the dns proxy, it did not help.

the only way that i have found to get back up on speed is to disable the wireless in the router setting or bypass the router and lose the phone Sad

I still need to try to put the old router in front of the new one.
I guess running and bad router and loosing the extra cash i payed for the "good" router might be the best way to go.

I am blown away by the fact that linksys don't have any kind of support for this model. They have a config program that works on most of their routers but not this one Sad

Again thanks for any help.

Hey

Ok here is a speed test after changing the dns server ip´s

Welcome to BBR! Run more tests! see forums
2006-02-14 01:09:29 EST: 134 / 96
Your download speed : 134 kbps or 16.7 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 96 kbps or 12 KB/sec.

this is on RoadRunner 5mbps cable!!
The whole thing blowes.

Im thinking of dumping Vonage and going back to paying more for my phone but having my RR back!

any further posts appreciated.

hey

ok here is what is going on.
I had the wireless set for g only. i set that for both b/g
I set the dns ip number at what rr posts as their dns's

here is the new speed test:
Welcome to BBR! Run more tests! see forums
2006-02-14 01:50:46 EST: 4239 / 363
Your download speed : 4239 kbps or 529.9 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 363 kbps or 45.4 KB/sec.

Big difference!!!!

now my games run smooth and the there is no problem with the connection. So far so good.

I did test the setting for the router on g-only and both bands a few times and it was the same every time.
There must be some misconfiguration in the firmware of the router to make it malfunction like that if you select G-Only for the band.
Since I have a G network i figured that setting it to that would be better but i guess not.
Like I say so far so good.

If i have any further problems I will post i here.

Again thanks for your input
