I have an Adtran NetVanta 1224 Router which is full QoS enabled.
I am debating hooking up like this:
Cable Modem => Linksys RTP300 => Adtran 1224R => Network
or
Cable Modem => Adtran 1224R => Linksys RTP300
I am not sure which would be best. I am only using about 10% of my router's features and I don't want to risk any loss in call quality.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Definitely the RTP300 AFTER the Adtran... The RTP300's QoS is worthless at best. As long as you have the QoS properly configured in the Adtran, you're not going to experience call quality issues. |

Agreed. The RTP most definately should be behind it. By the way, do you have the straight version of the router or the POE-version? |

I have the standard version. I was hoping that putting the 1224 first was the way to go.
Thanks for the responses. |

Most likely not... give it a try without forwarding ports. I've only had to forward ports in one situation with an aging and decrepit router.
If that fails to work, give your Vonage adapter a static IP and forward the following ports to it:
* 5060 through 5063 using UDP protocol * 123 using UDP protocol * 69 using UDP protocol * 53 using UDP protocol * 10,000 through 20,000 using UDP protocol |

No. The RTP300 requires a bunch of ports to be open, but doesn't require any port forwards of any kind. As long as you aren't actually blocking any of the ports Vonage wants, it should work fine. |
