I'm having an unusual problem. I currently have my Vonage ATA (RTP300) hooked into my cable modem. Then from that I have a linux router that controls the internet to all the computers in my house, plugged into the ATA. When nothing is plugged into the RTP300, calls are just fine. When I plug my linux router into it, everything works fine for about 45-60 seconds, then the other end cannot hear me, but I can hear them just fine. Anybody have any handy insights as to what might be causing this? |

Assign your Vonage ATA a static IP and make sure you have the following ports forwarded to it:
Port......................Protocol.........IP 5060 to 5061 ----- UDP-----(IP address of the Phone Adapter) 123 to 123--------- UDP-----(IP address of the Phone Adapter) 69 to 69 ------------UDP------(IP address of the Phone Adapter) 53 to 53------------ UDP-----(IP address of the Phone Adapter) 10000 to 20000 ---UDP-----(IP address of the Phone Adapter) |

No, that won't help any. The Vonage ATA is plugged directly into the cable modem. Nothing needs to be forwarded to it. |

Well, I managed to isolate my problem down. Turns out it wasn't the linux router at all. I unplugged my whole network leave me with just the Vonage ATA plugged into my cable modem. I plugged one computer into the ATA, got a dhcp lease. Everything seemed fine, both ends of the call could be heard. Then I tried to pull up a webpage, then my end went dead. I could still hear the other end, but they could not hear me. Once the page was loaded, the call returned to normal.
I have checked the 'bandwidth saver' on my Vonage account and it's set to the highest level. QoS is enabled on the ATA. From the way it seems, the ATA is not doing any kind of QoS.
Any insights? Thanks |

The QoS in the Vonage adapters is rudimentary at best. Don't expect it to do any functional QoS for you. Loading webpages shouldn't cause problems on most connections. What are your www.testmyvoip.com scores? Sounds like you barely have enough bandwidth. |

If your Linux router has QoS, then put it first and assign the ATA "highest" in QoS priority.

I have a WRTP54G hooked behind a WRT54G V4 and it works GREAT. Just turn the RTP300 into a Vonage adapter only. |
