Has anyone successfully transferred their number in Northern Virginia from Verizon with a Foreign Exchange feature? I am being asked by Vonage to get Verizon to remove the feature. Verizon is saying that if it is removed my service will be disconnected and I have to take a new number. Verizon also said Vonage should be able to port it without removing the feature and they are asking me to do the leg work for them.

I just went through this... also a Verizon hostage in NoVA. The answer seems to be no. See the thread here.
Vonage seems to think there is no way possible to transfer a number that is an FX. I am not sure if that is true or if they don't want to or they don't know how to. Verizon is correct when they say that if you have them remove the FX that your number will be disconnected and if that happens your transfer is sure to fail. |

Thanks for the reply. I will wait for a week or so and see what happens. It is a major hassle. I have to call quite a few people to inform them of a number change. I wonder if Verizon can have a message telling callers of the new Vonage number. |

In order for a number to be ported it has to be a plain basic phone line. No features on it at all. |

I am going through the same problems here near annapolis, MD. Vonage says they can not transfer the number because the FX feature is turned on. FX is not a feature, it is a just a patch run from one LATA to another for you.
I have a (301) area code in a (410) area. So verizon trunked that number to me and does not want to release it to Vonage. I asked verizon if I bought a house in a 301 area code i9f they could transfer it to me. THey said yes, once transfered to my new house, in a 301 area code it would be like a normal number. So I then set them up, and asked if I could then transfer it to Vonage then, they of course had to say yes. So its possible, but the political in fighting is killing me!!!
Please help me!!! What should I do??? |
