Hi all,

I'm a new user... My vital info:

- Our modem doesn't have anything to indicate what the make is
- Using Linksys RTP300 Adapter

We can't get a dialtone using the equipment. We *do* have a light on the Line 1 LED, interestingly, that same light shows even if we plug the phone into the Line 2 spot. We've tried multiple phones & have called tech support twice. The second time the person said she was unable to help me and was transferring me to someone else to assist, 10 minutes later (no exaggeration) I was disconnected.

During the tech support calls we've tried configurations using our old router, and without using it, resetting the voice settings in the Vonage router, rebooting and unplugging everything several times, and tried both phone ports (though again, line 1's LED lights no matter what). Also tried two different phones.

I could call back but I'm wary of the idea of going through the script again... Any ideas what else we could try?

Thanks for your help!

What do you hear on the phone that you've plugged into the adapter? Anything at all? What do you hear if you plug it into port 2 when it's port 1 that has the phone light lit?

Normal behavior for the RTP300 when phone light 1 is lit and light 2 is out is for you to get a dial tone when plugged into port 1 and a message that you've plugged into the wrong port if you've plugged into port 2. If that's not what's happening, I believe you've got a bad RTP300. If you're getting dead silence and have tried more than one phone, I'd suspect a bad phone cord.

We hear dead silence, though it's that type of silence that if you blow or talk into the phone, you can hear it to some extent played back to your ear... So not like a completely broken phone.

I just went and tried a different phone cord... still no dialtone.

And what do you hear if you plug the phone into port 2 on the RTP300? If it's still dead silence, try doing a reset on the adapter. Push in the reset button (using a probe through the hole in the back of the case), apply power, and continue to hold the button down for 1 minute. If you still get dead silence on both phone ports, then I'd say that you have a bad adapter.

Another thing to do is to unplug the Vonage adapter, plug it in, then let it sit by itself for a good 15 minutes. There have been no fewer than 20 different firmware updates for these adapters. Yours might be in the middle of trying to do any upgrade.

Which version of firmware does your Vonage adapter show if you go to it's admin page? (http://192.168.1.15/ )

Current version is 1.00.60.

There's no dialtone on line two either.. We'll try the reset and/or the 15 minute power off. Smile Our firmware version is 1.00.60.

Sounds like you might have a dead adapter there. If it's providing power to the phones, it might be capable of being revived. Your best bet is to put an older version of the firmware on the adapter and see if the problem still exists. Any Level 2 tech should be able to do this for you. They might think it's a strange request, but it has often cleared out a few problems. If that does work, then have them move you to the current firmware version. It should continue to work.

There are also manual instructions (and links) on the forum for how to do this yourself without calling tech support, but I forget what the post was called. You can probably search for it and find it.

Theresa, can Vonage CS see your device. What I am thinking is that somehow its MAC address was never entered into the system. Ask them to remotely configure your adapter. Just a thought.

I'm not sure on the MAC address issue... Theresa said she's seeing Line 1 illuminate, which would mean it authenticated. If it wasn't for that, not a bad thought.

The other thing is she should be hearing the "you may have plugged into the wrong port" message when she plugs into port 2, and she's hearing dead silence instead. Non-provisioning wouldn't explain that.
