Hi All
Mind if I ask you a stupid question? I just signed up for a
Vonage
account. When I accessed my online account the first number that was showing (under the "account" screen) for my home number was (as an example) 1-abc-dwx-ghij. My actual home number is 1-abc-def-ghij. Did you get the same? When the LOA was emailed to me the incorrect home number is also showing on the letter. Is this number (1-abc-dwx-ghij) temporarily used until my actual home number (1-abc-def-ghij) is ported? I'm confused. Thanks for helping in advance.

What are you just posting this in every topic? I replied to one of them with an answer, find that one.

That's very observant of you. I also posted this as a new topic. I've received 15 "views" with no replys. I was hoping to post on another topic to see if I could get help.

If you have a friend you trust, give them your IP address and have them run a port scanner such as nmap on the udp ports required for
Vonage
. The ports should show up as open if they aren't being filtered by any equipment on your home network and if the RTP300 isn't trashed.

We may actually be able to try that, thanks.
Would the
Vonage
guy have done that as well?

That won't work. Your ports will show as closed because the connection relies on the device making an outbound connection to make a pinhole in the NAT. only traffic from a server that the device made an outbound request to within the last 30 seconds will be able to see it as open.

HI all, I wanted to post a reply in case anyone with a similar problem finds the thread through a search.
There was no port blocking involved, my cable company said the ports listed weren't blocked, and also said that they haven't had widespread problems with
Vonage
customers not being able to get their service going. So it was just us.
I have to say I'm a little miffed with vonage's customer service. After my last post, it became very difficult to get through to them, crazy wait times, disconnects and messages to call back later. Also, my number got transferred quickly so I was completely without a phone, had to borrow a cell phone when I could to try to get through.
Eventually I ended up getting through, and even after asking to be transferred to teir two again, india tech support wanted to take me through the whole "open a new internet explorer page" spiel before transferring me. This was my fifth call and probably the 8th time I'd done it without any effect, and it seemed that they kept no record of what had been tried before. I told her I was getting really angry and was about to just cancel my account. That got me immediately transferred to teir two, to a guy who, within 1 minute, said the router was dead and they'd send me a new one. Two days later, I got my new router and hooked it up and am enjoying a dial tone.
Got to make a test call and am told the voice quality is very good.
So the cause of my problem was a DoA router. I understand
Vonage
doesn't want to probably spend the extra money to ship out new routers for every problem, but I still feel the amount of effort I had to go through to get one was excessive. It was a shame that I had to threaten to cancel my account before anything was done for me.
Not a disgruntled customer though. The service is *really* affordable, and had I not gotten the DoA router by chance, I'd have no complaints. I'm sure 95% of their customers hook their things up without trouble and off they go. I'm just hoping nothing happens where I have to deal with them again.
Thanks so much for all your efforts to help me out.
