I have RR Cable Modem service (5.0/384k) out of Orlando, FL.

Setup is: Cable Modem -> PIX500 -> RTP300 (v1.00.60) -> Computers

First, I'd like to verify my setup. On the PIX I run fixup sip 5060 and fixup sip udp 5060. I have 1 port on the PIX plugged into the "internet" port on the RTP300. I have a second port on the PIX plugged into Ethernet 1 on the RTP300. I have 3 desktop PC's plugged into Ethernet 2-4 on the RTP300.

I have my wireless access point plugged into Port 2 on the PIX (out of ports on the RTP300, didn't want to drop in a switch)

This let the RTP300 contact Vonage, and it let me place my desktop PC's into the RTP300. The idea of this setup being that my desktop PC's, which get the most network traffic in/out, will get QoS tagged by the RTP300, and th eonly thing going untagged being my wireless laptops, which generate very little internet/network traffic.

I have an access list that allows TCP/5060, UDP/5060, and UDP/5061 into the PIX and it's static mapped to the "internet" IP of the RTP300.

I have the Vonage bandwidth saver set to the highest qualty still.

NAT/Firewall is OFF in the RTP300.

I've ran testyourip.com a variety of time and the MOS seems to always be around 3.5-3.7, but I hit 2.6 once, this is from me to Boston. From Boston to me is in the 4.1-4.3 range

Specifics From me to Boston:
MOS 3.6 / 5.0

I've only had Vonage for 2 days now, and my first call of any length (13 minutes) had 2 major outbound audio dropouts. After the second drop out, I hung up. THe person called me back and the Vonage auto-forwarding kicked in and sent it to my cell phone. Obviously Vonage couldn't hit the RTP300 after the second drop out.

THe audio drop-outs were outbound only. The first time was for about 5 seconds, and I could hear the other person saying "hello" through my audio drop out. The second drop-out was > 60 seconds, and my guess is I had a full internet dropout on my cable modem.

So, where to go from here? My RR speed quality is always very high, both inbound and out. Should I reduce the Vonage bandwidth saver to normal? Do I need to adjust some things in the RTP300 or the PIX, or the way my network is setup?

I have 4 available dynamic IP's from RoadRunner and I could put a switch behind the cable modem and plug the PIX and RTP300 directly into that switch so each has it's own external IP on the internet. If I do this, I'd plug NO network devices into the RTP300 because I need to use my PIX as my network firewall, not the RTP300.

I think your first step should be to try to establish whether the poor test call is on your ISPs turf (including your cable modem and incoming cable) or your turf (PIX500 and down). Try plugging a computer directly into the modem and re-running the test.

For what it's worth, I'm also running RR in Orlando, and my test results are always excellent.
