I noticed recently that Vonage made some changes to their web site, and my handy little link that I used to have that automatically logged me in to the site no longer works.
This prompted me to think: How hard would it be for someone to write a little program that somehow interfaces with the Vonage web site, and gives a user similar controls to the web interface, without necessarily using a browser? This might seem like a silly idea to some, but if there was an application that would interface with the Vonage Dashboard, it would be immensely convenient to me to simply open an application on my desktop, rather than opening a browser window and logging in.
Any ideas? |

The browser is most likley the best source for this. I hope that Vonage continually upgrades the functionality etc...and this will bring a better website (not that it is bad today).
I would like to be able to turn features on and off by using the Phone key pad like *123 for vm ad *124 for turn call forwarding on/off. I think you see where I am going with this. |

Putting an app like that together is a pretty straight forward matter. Using python/wxpython one could put together a nice a little cross platform app like you want. The problem is will Vonage allow it? The app would be a "screen scraper" and send back your changes with their web site. To the web site it would think it was dealling with a web browser. Some companies have a real problem with this, for some good and for some not so good reasons, and can easily "break" your app if they want.
If Vonage was cool with such an app with the understanding that while "ignoring" it (no support and even mentioning it) and they wouldn't try to break it I could do something.
The question is would they allow it or not? While I could do this without their "blessing" I really don't want to go "against the grain" on this one. I'm way too happy with them, like what they do and am very happy that verizon is not getting any more of my money to p*ss them off.
It's a good idea though. |
