PostPosted: Wed Apr 07, 2004 8:21 am    Post subject: Vonage and land line on single phone Reply with quote Back to top

Hi,
I have Vonage finally working successfully ( after two returns of the phone adaptor ). I have a need to keep the land line as my Cable internet connection has been giving me intermittent problems.

I have invested last year in VTeck system with 5 remote phones. The only problem is that its a single line phone. I have heard of a product called automatic line selector which can be used to connect two phone lines to a phone with single phone line. It can be configured to select one of the line as the preferred line for outgoing call and there is a way to override.

Does anybody know where I can find this product ? Or is there any other solution to connecting two lines to a single line phone.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,
Raj

I replaced all of my telephone wall plates with new ones that have multiple jacks. I wired a couple of jacks for two line phones and the other jacks for use only on line two. When you plug a single line phone into a jack wired for two lines, it will only only use your primary line. Plug the phone into one of the other jacks and you will be on line two.

Theretically, you could pick up a DTDP switch from radio shack and wire it to flip between the two lines, but the switch may interject electrical noise on the phone lines.

Your plan doesn't sound bad, but I'm unable to find any product like it except one for $200 available in New Zealand!!!

If it only cost $20 I would install it while I wait for my local number to port.

I've never seen any discussion of a more reasonably priced device to accomplish this. Cheap devices may also pose the risk of exposing your ATA to the low line voltage in your POTS line, which could ruin the box.
