Post subject: Linux Software Phone - Download and Install?
Anyone know if there is a Linux compatible version of the software phone that will work with
vonage
? We've tried Sj Phone's beta, and that didn't seem to work right. We then tried
http://www.lipz4.com/lipz4.htm
and it connects and you can hear the user for 1 to 2 seconds and the the phone line dies. We also put the computer in the DMZ to try to prevent any issues with port forwarding and that didn't even seem to help. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
I tried calling
vonage
and they are coming out with Mac support before they come out with Linux support. Sure would be nice if there were some documentation somewhere online on how to do this.
Regards,
LinuxGuy

Waste of time for the moment I'm afraid.
Vonage
has a couple of security checkpoints that you have to pass and unfortunately for the moment they have little interest in supporting 3rd party devices for "test" purposes.
First check is MAC level authentication (this is the unique hardware ID for the MOT or Cisco box)0. If the MAC address doesn't mach with the telephone number that's trying to registered then it simply ignores the request. It may also check to see if duplicate registrations have been made (meaning someone spoofed the address).
Second when an actual phone call is made it re-verifies the information is still correct as well as current account information.
As
VoIP
devices become more commonplace -- we're bound to see a change as clearly
Vonage
doesn't want to ship hardware to their customers ... but for the moment -- that's the current plan.

I'm referring to the software application... not the actual Cisco and Motorola boxes. Any ideas about the software phone stuff and linux?
