Just hooked up my Vtech 8100 yesterday (installation went smoothly), and the sound quality is great, but...
While I was out, I called home from my cell phone to speak to my son. When I got home I checked my messages. I noticed that my ex had called from her cell, and it simply said "Cell Phone MI (her number)"... then I noticed the entry from my cell, and not only did it show my number, but my name also.
I don't remember ever seeing names displayed along with cell numbers before... is this normal? Could be... I dunno :/ |

Some cell carriers show name on CID, most don't. |

I don't think it's my cell carrier, because it never showed my name when using SBC. I'm quite positive of that. |

Cingular (apparently) does not include names, as family and friends who use Cingular only show as "Cell Phone IN" or "Cell Phone AR" for Indiana and Arkansas - not sure about other carriers. I can tell you that prior to Vonage when I had local phone company, all that showed up was "Cellular Caller". |

I know bupkus about the VTECH, but I do know that many CallerID-capable phones that also have an address book feature will use the name in the address book rather than the name sent by the remote.
Do you have your cell in your VTECH's address book? I'm going to assume you do not have your ex's number in it. Maybe that's it? |

I have Cingular in the Orlando area and my name DOES show up in the caller ID for my Vonage phone. And, NO, my phone does not use the phonebook to display the name. |

Actually, I did already have my ex's cell# programmed into the Vtech with her name, but it doesn't show her name when she calls.
I do not have my cell# programmed in, and yet it does show my name. My cell provider is T-Mobile, I think she's on Cingular.
Also, my cell# is from out of state (kept the same cell# after moving because it is used mostly to keep in touch with family there), and I am on another family member's F&Fs extended network, while my ex is not... |

That's interesting, because FL is the state where my cell service is based (currently in MI) |

I had a similar question about cell numbers...except that when I call my Vonage from cell phone the name that shows up is no one I recognize! Usually the caller ID shows "cell phone" and then the number, but when I call with my cell it shows someone else's name and my number. |

I suspect this might be a regional issue and all cell providers are slowly adding outgoing CallerID name support region by region. I have Cingular in CA and my name shows up on CID. My wife has T-Mobile and her name shows up as well. I know my name showed up even before I switched from SBC to Vonage. I have a friend, who's got a Verizon phone and his shows up as "Wireless caller". |
