No whispers required.

Free World Dialup ( http://www.freeworlddialup.com/ ) offers SIP accounts for free, and http://www.ipkall.com offers a phone number that can accept incoming calls that are forwarded to any SIP account of your choice, also for free.

Of course, your phone number will likely be in Washington State, (I got a 360 area code), and you can't make outbound calls, but hey, it's all free, at least for now.

I use mine with the (also free) PC client "ExpressTalk" to test my Vonage line from time to time. It's a good inbound-only alternative/backup line.

I am looking for dial in numbers for south east asian countries like in Singapore or Malaysia.

ipkall.com only has a presence in Washington State, US, as far as I know. You can search around for another company that provides the same service in other countries, but I don't know what you'll find.

Nothing wrong with Washington state or having a phone number there. Very Happy

Never meant to imply there was. Smile

Some day, I'll get up that way for a look-see. I've been to Alaska, but didn't seen any of Washington on the way (hard to do from 40,000 feet with clouds) (grin)

www.freedigits.com you can get a free dialin number from them and program it into a softphone or a hardware sip device.

The other was a little more complicated but freedigits is totally free for incoming calls. Outgoing calls they charge you like 2 cents a minute or something like that. I never use the outgoing calls.

Yup that's basically how I got my second dialin number.

AFAIK and after talking to Vonage today, its still not available. I havent found anything on the net about it besides blogs and forums, which is basically just rumor mills. I could have had an uniformed sales rep, but i doubt it.
