Okay, here is the deal. We have had Vonage for over a year now. It has worked great for us, until recently. However, we have been having internet problems and are waiting for the dude to come out and look at our connection to see if there is problem.
Today, I was told by a "new" Vonage user, that you can not use cordless phones with 2.4 GHz because Vonage will not work on this frequency. This is the type of phone we have been using since day 1, with no problems what so ever until we started having problems with our internet. Is there any truth to this? Did Vonage change frequencies that are now keeping my cordless phone from working properly or is this guy full of poop? Eek
Thanks for any and all help! Smile

If you are using wireless internet and 2.4 gig phones then you could get wireless interference since both are on the same frequency. You can get around this by changing the channel on the wireless, and moving them as far as possible from the wireless. But unless you are getting a lot of static on your phone calls then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

802.11 WiFi in the US has 11 channels in the 2.4GHz range. Many of those channels are shared with standard 2.4GHz cordless phones, which typically pick from a list of 25 or 50 channels. Personally, I have two 2.4GHz phones in my house, and have never had interference problems with my WiFi network.

But, that's not to say that I won't. One of my cordless phones might get cranky with its connection tomorrow and change channels on me, and in theory it could be the channel that my WiFi router is using, and bone up my WiFi network. Hasn't happened so far.

If I had a lot of neighbors using 2.4GHz wireless stuff, the chances of a collision would be much higher, of course. Since my nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away, and he doesn't own any computers, and I live in an aluminum sided house in deep woods, interference is not a problem for me. Wink

You can get around this, sometimes, by pressing the channel button on your cordless phone, or changing the channel on your router.

2.4GHz phones will NOT interfere with a WIRED Ethernet connection, obviously. Wink

Just to cap this off and add one point, 802.11b and 802.11g operate in the 2.4GHz range, but 802.11a operates at 5Ghz. It looks like the new 802.11n standard could possibly standardize on both, but it's a little early to tell.

I had this problem with a 2.4 ghz phone too. It was easily fixed by changing the channel on the router.
