PostPosted: Tue Feb 07, 2006 9:28 am    Post subject: Can not acces a website Reply with quote Back to top

I got my Linksys WRTP54G, firmware version 1.00.60 about two weeks ago. Everything working fine... until this past weekend. I am unable to get to a website when going through the router, either wired or wireless. When I connect direct to the Adelphia cable modem I can access the site. So it must be something with the router. I ran the traceroute from inside of the router and it works up to hop 14 then just times out from there. I tried each of the HTTP settings in the QOS section, but still no good. I tried putting my computer into the DMZ, the page still did not come up. I tried port forwarding ports 1 through 65,500 for both UDP and TCP, still did not work.

I tested my up and down speeds I get:

4.69 meg up
444K down
QOS of 45%

My network is real simple: Cable modem, into the wireless router to the computers. Neither computer can access the website.

Anything else I can test, or try? By the way, the site is up, and I could access it for the first two weeks.

Scratching my head over here in Lancaster, Ca. Please send some help.

Thank you for the quick response. Good article on DNS.

I tried static IP addresses in the router then in the computer. Neither one worked. I keep getting this page can not be displayed.

Do you think setting up static routing would help? Although I don't think I should have to do this just to see a website.

Oh, I think I misunderstood. This is a specific web site? What site?

Sorry for the slow response.

Yes one single webpage that I know of. It is: http://www.breakcircle.com

Just something I am helping a friend with so not really meant for the publie right now. But I can access it from my work and I can access it when directly connected to the modem.

It really does look like a router problem...but I don't know what it could be. Unless the router is adding a hop that the packets did not expect to be there...but that really does not make sense to me.

Thank you for any help.

Hmm. I'm getting to it just fine through my router, but then again I use a different router.

What specific errors are you getting?

Does an NSLOOKUP on the site return anything from behind the router?

PS: Nice work on the logo and theme for the site, by the way. Very stylish.

The NSLOOKUP returned the following from behind the router:

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: breakcircle.com
Address: 65.75.175.120

And before you ask, I can not ping the addres and it does not work in a web browser.

Thanks for the help and for the nice comments.

For what it's worth, I can get to the site through my RTP300, which is the non-wireless version of your router.

Thanks NateHoy and Steve48,

I'm am going to call my ISP. The more I get into this the more I think it is a problem on their side.

That is the only thing that makes any sense to me.

I am seeing intermittent DNS failures with the Wireless G router. Hopefully disabling the DNS Proxy fixes it. Thanks.

You suggest disabling the DNS Proxy and hard coding the DNS servers. Why not just disable the DNS Proxy and get the DNS servers via DHCP?
