Post subject: Can't access the web with router
I can only acces the web if I use the usb cable from the modem to the computer. They sent me out a replacement router figuring that the ist router was bad, but the same thing is happening with the new one. the
Vonage
line does work though, hooked up the way they suggest...for some reason the router is not "talking" to the computer.

I'm assuming you did power everything down including the modem. If not, power everything down in order starting with phone adapter and bring back up in reverse order.

From the computer:
1. Do you have an IP address from the router? Go to a command line and type "IPCONFIG" and press enter. You should have an IP address of something like 192.168.15.2 - if not, type IPCONFIG /RELEASE followed by IPCONFIG /RENEW and see if it gives you an address.
2. If you have an IP address, can you ping Internet addresses? Try PING
www.yahoo.com
then PING 68.142.226.50 - if the IP address works and the web address does not, then your problem is probably DNS.

No, that doesn't work either. I'm wondering if that's because of all the changes they had me make in my "connections"? Now I can't access the web with my just my usb either. The only way I can get the web is if I have my blue phone line from the modem to the router hooked and the usb from the modem to the computer. If I hook everything the way they say then the
Vonage
line works, but I get no internet.

Yep, powered down, brought everything up in reverse order and still no internet, but the
Vonage
line works perfectly.

I did the "ipconfig" and got 192.168.15.100
I tried pinging Yahoo and got
"request timed out." packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0
I saw your page
http://vonage.nmhoy.net/dnsproxy.html
I got 3 DNS servers
"2. Reconnect your router and computer, and log into the router. From the main configuration screen, disable the DNS Proxy (marked in the picture with a red dot) and enter your DNS servers into the DNS fields (marked with blue dots). Leave any DNS fields you do not need as 0.0.0.0. Click "Save Settings" when you are done."
How do I log into my router?

BDiddy,
I think what is going on is that b/c the
Vonage
router does not accept usb connections, you now are using the ethernet connection on your modem.
Do you have a Network Card in your computer that has an ethernet connection to it? If you do, then we are in business. If not, then you are going to have to go buy a network card.
Please specify what kind of modem you have and which
Vonage
router you have.
One way to tell if you have a Network card is to look in the back and see if there is a slot with an ethernet cable size plug there. Also, you can go to Start -> Run -> type cmd -> a new dos window will pop up and you type in ipconfig /all and you'll see all the ethernet connections. It should list 2 one usb and the second an ethernet connection.
Please post.

Actually if this is the case, if you don't have a network card, you can purchase a usb to ethernet adapter. Linksys sells one for about $30 and then you don't have to pull the computer apart.
It's better to instal a network card, but the adapter is a much easier work around.

Well, I plug the the yellow wire from the router to the ethernet plug on the back of my computer and the
Vonage
phone works perfectly...that must mean that I have a Network card with an ethernet connection to it, right?
I'm using a Motorola Surfboard 5120 and an RTP300 router.
