Hmmmmm...

Someone mentioned earlier hooking your computer directly to the cable modem. Have you tried that, and does it work? (obviously, you'll need to power down your cable modem to clear out any MAC addresses).

Have you changed any settings on the Vonage router at all? Maybe a factory reset on that would help, as well (hold RESET key while powered up for 30 seconds).

modem directly to computer using what cable? USB or Ethernet?

Haven't changed any settings on the router. I've never been able to access the web based utility.

I've treid doing the router reset...hasn't helped.

OK, your built in Ethernet is probably toast.

Try another patch cable, just for giggles, to make sure it isn't a bad patch cable.

But if you cannot get Internet from your cable modem's Ethernet side, and your Vonage router can, then it's almost certain that your Ethernet card is fried or has a serious problem that will take a long time to diagnose over a forum like this.

Go get yourself a cheap Ethernet card, or a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. Put it in your computer and use that to hook the computer up to the router.

Personally, I prefer the actual Ethernet card, rather than a USB solution, but that's only for you if you are comfortable opening your PC and installing an expansion card. Either will work.

Tried another cable and it still doesn't work. I guess I'll have to try a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. I've never been into the computer, so I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

Understandable. It really is only a matter of a screwdriver and 10 minutes' work, but the first time is unnerving, I know. Wink The USB-Ethernet adapter should work just fine (I mean, after all, you've been using USB for the Internet for this long...) Wink

Woo-EFFIN'-HOO!!!! Installed the USB adapter and I can now access the web!!! Thanks, buddy! You rock!

ip address: 168.192.15.100
default: 168.192.15.1

So should I be set now or is there anything else I need to do? Should I try to access the web based router utility?

There really isn't anything you need to change there if everything is working right. I'd go in there and change the password and check out some of the options, but not a lot you need to change.

http://192.168.15.1/ username and password should both be "admin"

If you start having trouble surfing the Web, you can check this out:

http://vonage.nmhoy.net/dnsproxy.html

But not everyone runs into this problem - I think it has to do with how heavily your connection is used.

Glad you are up and running. Bon Vonage! Wink

Now if I could only completely cancel my Verizon line. I'll be keeping it for my home security system. I wonder if I could transfer that Verizon # to Vonage, but still keep a Verizon line for my security system. They cancel your line once the # get's transfered to Vonage, right?
