PostPosted: Mon Feb 06, 2006 4:51 pm    Post subject: Need help setting up FTP server through VoIP router Reply with quote Back to top

Adding a Lan Drive to my network. Config is:

Cable Modem -> Linksys RPT300 -> Dlink DI-784 -> Lan Drive

I believe I have the Dlink configured correctly. But when I typed in my IP (supplied by Comcast) I got the login screen for my Linksys. Was wondering if someone could help me get the configured correctly. I want my family to be able to access my Lan Drive via the internet.

I think part of my problem is my family needs to be using an FTP program to hit my 'outside' IP. But I assume the Linksys needs to forward this to the DLink then to the Lan Drive.

Make sense?

with an FTP Server behind a router (well my case just one router ) all i do is forward a port range in router settings for passive connections for the outside. This will be a range ....example lets say i want to use port 27015 as the port my ftp uses

so i would forward the ports in router settings from 27015-27025 and use the internal ip of the computer which the drive is on...so lets say its 192.168.15.100 (the default first computer on router)

so now you give your external ip (the one isp gave ya) and port 27015 , user/pass to people connecting to it from the outside of your network.

if you want to check your ftp from within the network you will have to use your internal ip , port, user/pass

now with two routers in a daisy chain im not too sure , but at least you get an idea , hope i helped....good luck

also take note if someone is using most of your upload speed (downloading from you) Vonage calls may not sound as good or good at all....ftp server program that limits upload speed would be most ideal for you.

Looks like the RPT300 forces you to use 192.168.15.X scheme. Been using .0.1 on my LAN router.

Thanks for the info. I think it'll help. I know when I'm uploading to a webhost my inbound audio on Vonage calls is okay but the outbound audio is poor.

hmm.... doesn't work for me. RPT300 is set to 192.168.15.1. My LAN router is set to 192.168.0.1. If I switch it to 15.2 then I seem to be screwed and have no access outside my LAN and cannot login to the RPT300. If I switch my LAN router back to .0.1 I gain WAN access back and access to the RPT300.

How can I setup access to this LAN drive to the outside with this issue if I cannot port forward. The Linksys router is hard coded to port forward to 192.168.15.X. If I switch my LAN router to 15.X I have problems on the WAN side.

Why are you using 2 routers? Disable the Netgear's DHCP and run it like a straight switch... THEN just deal with the Vonage adapter's port forwarding. Double-NATs cause all sorts of problems.

You mean my DLink. Double NATs...hmm. Never even thought of that. Good idea! Why is it when we're doing work for someone these things come to us but when we're doing it for ourselves we have a mental block? Ha..

Thanks... I'm on it.

Ok...I'm having trouble. Apparently I cannot figure out how to properly config my DLink. DHCP is already enabled in the Linksys RTP300. If I disable it in my DLink I have problems and cannot connect to the Linksys or internet.

I'm using two routers because my DLink is WiFi and I need it.

Thought about moving the Lan Drive to the Linksys but then I cannot connect to it via My Network Neighborhood on the desktop PC attached to the DLink.
