Ok here is my situation.
ive got 3 comps.....
comp1: personal computer comp2: Internal Web Server comp3: Firewall with ipcop installed
right now this is way everythign is set up.
rtp300 has dhcp off and has all three comps plugged into it, ive got my cable modem plugged into my firewall....and everything is working perfect....except im at a loss on how to get my Vonage phone line working.
What ive tried:
1. going from the WAN port on the rtp300 to a regular port, so its sort of plugged into itself....but that did not work. EDIT: i did this and set the internet connection to static ip and set it to 192.168.1.12 and the phone light on the rtp300 came on and then off, but i never got a dial tone, but now the WAN light is on and the phone light is off, not sure if im getting anywhere with this method but we will see....
EDIT: Ive been able to get a dial tone, but not consistantly, and ive been able to dial out once, but i havent been able to receive any calls through Vonage
2. install a 3rd NIC and plug that into the WAN port of the rtp300 but the lights dont even light up...so that doesnt work
what do i have to do to get my Vonage phone line workin with this current setup? do i have to get another switch/hub?
any info regarding this would be much appreciated, thanks
EDIT: I got it working.....
just in case anyone else is going through this here's the solution.
i connected an ethernet cable from the WAN port to a LAN port on the rtp300, and then i logged into the rtp300 and set the "internet connection" to static ip 192.168.1.20 in my case, and forwarded the needed ports:
SIP ports 5060 through 5061 using UDP protocol NTP port 123 using UDP protocol TFTP port 69 using UDP protocol DNS port 53 using UDP protocol RTP ports 10,000 through 20,000 using UDP protocol
and boom! it worked.
so now ive got a web server, my personal computer, AND Vonage all behind my firewall. |

Even better yet kill the port forwarding as it is not needed. I have my adapter behind an IPCop box and did not forward any ports. |
