I have recently moved from oklahoma city to houston, and I was hoping to bring my Vonage phone numbers with me, but I have not been able to get a dial tone since i have been here. I have purchased a new phone, but otherwise, everything is set up the same. . . modem -> Linksys RT31P2 -> computer and phone.

any suggestions? I have rebooted several times. . no luck.

Please post the information listed here. Is your internet service working with the setup you've indicated?

yes, my internet service is working.

1. Your location - Houston, TX
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) Earthlink Cable
3. Upload and download speeds - upload - 3.37Mbps, download - 376kbps.
4. Modem make and model - Motorola something. doesn't say.
5. Type of Vonage adapter used - Linksys RT31P2
6. Setup of Network: Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC & Phone
7. Issue you are experiencing: I am getting no phone light on the modem, and no dial tone on the phone.
8. DETAILED results from www.testyourvoip.com with a test call to Boston. . i can't get to this page at all.

Well, I think we can accurately deduce that since your setup worked fine before, (by the way, did you change ISP's in the move), it's got to be a location issue with either the ISP now, or something physical in the path (not in your home).

The fact you can't get to testyourvoip bothers me though. Steve?

UPDATE: Wow, check out this blog I just found:

what about this link:

http://www.vonage.com/unlimited/

looks to me like earthlink's Voip has become Vonage. . . wouldn't make sense to block themselves would it?

That blog says Earthlink can block Voip according to their TOS. It doesn't say they are actively blocking Voip at this time.

Sorry, but in my troubleshooting mindset, "CAN" means there's a possibility that something is causing an issue. Whether it actually is or not, it still remains a possibility.

James, who is your cable provider in that area? It's not Earthlink, it's who actually "owns" the cable infrastructure.

time warner actually provides the service. . . and from the looks of it, there are people on this forum in houston that have Vonage with their time warner and earthlink services. . . I guess that means it's either my phone itself or the phone adapter. . .
