Howdy,
We have made the leap to VoIP and are waiting for Ma Bell to complete the porting of our number.
I just want to ensure I have everything ready for the switch.
So far here is what I have done:
Installed a drop from the NID to my office where the cable modem(Motorola Surfboard), router(Linksys BEFSR41) and phone adapter(Linksys RT31P2) reside.
The hook up is:
Modem-->phone adapter-->router
The NID is one of the new type described in the wiring section of the forum...the one with the half-duplex and plugless. (http://www.vonage-forum.com/home-wiring-installation-guide.html)
The Plan.
When disconneted from Ma Bell, I was going to disconnect the wires in the telco side of the NID. It is actually very easy and continue using the existing NID to distribute the Vonage signal through the house. The Vonage adapter would be plugged into the drop in the office to provide signal.
Does this sound feasible or even like a good idea?
Comments or suggestions would be great. |

It's quite feasible and a fine idea, but it is unclear why you needed the new cable drop to the office. Once the old POTS line is disconnected, the Vonage adapter could be plugged directly into a phone jack in the office, and the NID would continue to serve as a junction point where service is distributed to the rest of the house. Signal would be provided via the existing run from the NID to the jack in the office. |

Thanks for the reply.
Maybe I was not clear. The router, modem and phone adapter are all in a closet in the office...not sitting om my computer desk.
Hence, the need for a new drop.
Hope this clears up things.

Hi Steve, I have a question. Is there any existing jacks near that closet? |
