PostPosted: Fri Feb 03, 2006 6:35 pm    Post subject: 2-Line Telephone Switch Reply with quote Back to top

I am not able to have my Verizon phone number ported over, so I am trying to find a way to keep the old number plus the new one (this number is important, so I have to keep it). I am considering using a 2-Line Telephone Switch to allow my incoming calls to continue to come in on the old number and have my outgoing calls going out on Vonage.

Anyone have the same problem and found a better work around or has anyone tried this solution?

Thanks in advance

Sure, that looks like it would work. My concern was that stray voltage coming in from the POTS side could potentially get to the Voip side, which would not be good. It looks like it's separated enough to avoid that. On the other hand, if your old provider offers call forwarding, why not just set that up instead to your new Vonage number. It's not exactly seamless, but it would seem like it, and I'm sure your monthly bill would reflect it?

It looks like a good solution, but have you considered simply using a 2-line telephone? Of course, you have to manually select which line you'll call out on.

If Verizon offers call forwarding, another alternative would be to forward that line to your Vonage line.

Yeah, that call forwarding is a great idea Steve. Good call!

Running 2 line phone system....:

UnidenTRU8866 ($129 system, $40 each added cordless).

Avoid concerns with the whole "pots line voltage issue" by using 2 connector phone wire (impossible to leak line 2 info from POTs to line 2 vonage).

this system allows you to "auto select" a line <default> for outgoing calls...presumably Vonage, so start dialing on whatever you setup as "default line". when a phone call comes in, pushing "Talk" just answers whichever line is ringing...not a lot of thinking going on yet.... Add up to 10 cordless phones and distribute anywhere in the house. Basically mine <the base at least> sits in the same room as the Vonage router (line 2), with line 1 being the qwest line. Not sure that i would advertise the Vonage # as I use it only for outgoing calls (and usually only long distance). Not that I care which line gets used on ingoing or outgoing, line 1 (qwest) has no long distance, and the phone is setup to default to line2 (vonage). yada yada. Why complicate the issue?
